Bangladesh in India
The teams have been announced.
T20I squad: Rohit Sharma (capt), Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Sanju Samson (wk), Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey, Rishabh Pant (wk), Washington Sundar, Krunal Pandya, Yuzvendra Chahal, Rahul Chahar, Deepak Chahar, Khaleel Ahmed, Shivam Dube, Shardul Thakur
Test squad: Virat Kohli (capt), Rohit Sharma, Mayank Agarwal, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Hanuma Vihari, Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, Ishant Sharma, Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant (wk)
In the T20I team, Rohit and Pandey have showed they can stay at the wicket but Pandey is slow. Iyer got 6 completed innings but failed, Pant has failed in 16, Samson in one. Rahul has been pretty good and Dhawan has been bad for a long time. For the youngsters it makes sense to look at their domestic numbers.
My batsmen would be: Rohit, Rahul, Samson, Iyer, Pant, Dube. Now, there is one more slot. Dhawan is not as solid but slightly faster than Manish. Krunal is the hardest hitter but even less solid than Dhawan. If suppose if it is a flat pitch, go with Krunal. If it is a problematic pitch, go with Manish. I suspect the middle choice Dhawan will get games.
Among the bowlers Deepak walks in. Khaleel and Thakur have been similarly crappy. I have no idea why Saini is not there. Khaleel has been better in the domestics and is a left-hander. So, he gets my nod. Deepak, Khaleel and Dube are the pacers.
Sundar walks in. On performance, Chahal beats Chahar. But, I want to see a bit more of Rahul. Krunal and Chahal lose out.
So, Rohit, Dhawan/Manish/Krunal, Rahul, Samson, Iyer, Pant, Dube, Sundar, Rahul, Deepak, Khaleel. Not bad.

Re: Bangladesh in India
Dhawan batting as if he wants his test place back. 2 runs each in the 12th and 14th over of a T20I!!

Re: Bangladesh in India
What a disastrous batting performance! Pant is 9 off 14 balls. Now 13 off 15. 102/5 after 16 overs!!

Re: Bangladesh in India
Washington Sunder and Krunal Pandya retrieved the situation somewhat in the final over, but 148/6 will be tough to defend against even an inexperienced Bangladesh side. Thankfully Shakib and Tamim are missing...

Re: Bangladesh in India
I really don't understand by what logic Khaleel Ahmed has become a permanent fixture in the ODI and T20I squads. He averages 31/wicket at an economy rate of 5.8 in ODIs, and 31.9/wicket at an economy rate of 8.77 in T20Is. And he's a specialist bowler??!

Re: Bangladesh in India
KL Rahul probably did the most damage with the bat.
Chahal pulls it back with a wicket and an economical over. Just 1 run conceded. Bangladesh 54/2 after 8 overs.

Re: Bangladesh in India
2-0-2-1 from Chahal now, and he could have had a second wicket. Mushfiqur was LBW but it wasn't given and India didn't review.

Re: Bangladesh in India
Pandya is totally crappy as a bowler. Why is he getting three overs and Dube nothing?

Re: Bangladesh in India
I hope that is the last international match Khaleel Ahmed plays for at least the next 3 years! Utterly useless, and far below the standards required at the international level. Don't understand why Mayank isn't playing ahead of Rahul.
When we have Shami, Bhuvi, Umesh, Ishant available, I don't see why Khaleel gets picked. OK if you are resting some of them for tests, but for home tests just 2 pacers are needed, and Bhuvi doesn't even get picked for those!

Re: Bangladesh in India
Khaleel was total crap. As was Dube. And Krunal with the ball.
Dube failed with the bat too. As did Dhawan, Rahul, and Pant! Pandya and Sundar did a bit of a rescue act. I'd bring in Samson instead of Pandya and let Dube bowl 4 overs. If he cannot then drop him and keep Pandya. We cannot have both in the same team.
Khaleel gets 2 more matches and then gets chucked out. He does not deserve these really but neither does Thakur. Between twiddle-dum and tweedle-dee, I would prefer giving the matches to Khaleel but I cannot with any certainty say that he deserves them.

Re: Bangladesh in India
The experimental sides India plays with in T20Is are utterly ludicrous. Absolutely no reason why bowlers like Khaleel and Shardul Thakur should be playing, when we have Shami, Umesh, Ishant, Bhuvi available -- only 2 of whom are going to play in the home tests anyway (so they don't need rest). This is just hubris, and it was horribly exposed yesterday.
The batting is pretty poor too. Mayank and Shubman Gill should be playing ahead of Dhawan and Rahul. A bit strange that Manish Pandey was missing from the XI yesterday as well.

Re: Bangladesh in India
If you look at Pandey's record in T20Is, he has been very very slow. We need some batsmen who can stay at the wicket *and* hit. Manish can do the former and Krunal the latter. We have seen what Manish can do in T20Is. We should try Iyer and Samson and see if they can cut it and then decide. For #6 or #7, Krunal is a better choice but don't bowl him too much unless absolutely needed.
The problem has been that Iyer has failed in 7 innings and Pant has failed in 17 innings though Pant has done better than Iyer. And, Dhawan has always failed to be a match-winner in T20Is.
We need Rohit, Kohli, and Rahul to click. Karthik has a fabulous T20I record and should be brought back if Pant or Samson cannot cut it.
