Re: India in West Indies 2019
That is possihly true. He was a bad fielder. Speaking of fat, have you seen Rohit's gut? He is doing okay as a fielder now but I suspect he will age drastically in the field in the next few years
Kohli owned the series. Only one other Indian batsman did very well. Iyer. Everyone else failed. We are talking of two innings though.
Kuldeep was the best strike bowler followed by Bhuvi! Then Jadeja and Shami. Ahmed was costly at 7.47 runs/over for the series. Chahal kept it tight.

Rahane failed again (out for 1) in the tour match. He absolutely must NOT be in the XI for the first test.

Mayank has failed too in a few games. I would still open with Rahul and Mayank and have Vihari in the MO. No Rahane please. And, no Rohit either.

Rahane made a 50 in the second innings of the match (as an opener), thereby probably retaining his place in the XI for the first test.

Mayank made 4 & 81; 33 & 5 in the two India A first class matches against West Indies A.
Rahane has been in more wretched form in recent first class matches: 0 & 0; 55 & 8; 4 & 3; 1 & 42 (for Hampshire); and (in this practice match which isn't first class) 1 & 54.

Re: India in West Indies 2019
120 in four innings is generally not that great. However, the West Indies pitches seem to have been more pacier the last year or two and in context it may have been good. I do not know the conditions. The batsmen who came after him flourished though. Gill hit a double century. Etc. Anyway, Mayank has to be given some more chances before he is chucked out and there is no point forcing Vihari to open. I am hoping that Vihari and not Rohit or Rahane will be in the XI. If we play with six bats, do we want Rohit or Rahane? Rahane has class but is in bad form. Rohit is not that great a test bat in trying conditions but who knows what his form is. He has not played much FC cricket for a while.

Shubman Gill got a double century in the second innings of the second India A match. But he got a duck in the first innings. In the first match, he played one innings and got 40. In the Duleep Trophy match this week, he has made 6.

Re: India in West Indies 2019
West Indies will possibly throw us a fast pitch with green cover. Our aim should be 250 absolute-min, 350 general-target and anything more than that is gravy. I hope the players when they are set do not throw things away in a profligate manner. Sometimes, overconfidence and hubris brings forth disaster.
Gill has had a phenomenal start to his career. His FC average is 78, List-A 47.36 in over 45 matches, and 32 in T20s over 32 matches. He should be the next in line for a MO bat.

Re: India in West Indies 2019
Excellent start by India as a result of Ravi Shastri's overconfidence. 2 batsmen out to national stroke (edge) that Shastri was so good at and the so called world no.1 couldn't play a bounder properly. Shame. And we are not talking about opening against Roberts and Garner.

Re: India in West Indies 2019
36/3 now, and Rahane has a big chance to redeem himself. Vihari ahead of Rohit, and Jadeja ahead of Ashwin are questionable choices. I would actually have picked Jadeja at 6 and Ashwin at 7 (and not picked either Vihari or Rohit). If Vihari is our fifth bowler, he should at least bowl in the side games.

For goodness sake bring Rahul as coach and teach these guys to leave a few balls rather than edging everything (not the Rahul who is batting but the one who used to have big partnerships with Laxman)

Terrific day for Ishant Sharma, with a superb bowling spell at the end of the day complementing his opening spell — but also a wonderfully gritty effort with the bat in the morning.

Mayank Agarwal walks on a lbw which would have missed. We are bad on DRS.
