Gill for Virat, Siraj or Khaleel for Shami, Jadeja for Kuldeep. Bhuvi needs the games as well unless there is some injury risk.

Rayudu falls for a duck, in a match when he is under a bit of pressure. This is one guy who just doesn't belong, although his numbers (built up against Zimbabwe and the like) save him (average of 50+ at a strike rate of 80 going into this match).

DK too goes for a duck! Just a bit of swing today, and even de Grandhomme has picked up a couple of wickets.

Shubman Gill was looking good, until he got tonked on the helmet (batting on 6 at the time). Boult has been on top ever since.

And now he falls, caught and bowled, allowing Boult a wicket-maiden. India reeling at 33/5.

Well, time for Gill to shine and the middle order to pass a test that will no doubt appear at some time whether in regular matches or World Cup. Dhawan and Sharma should be the ones to bear the responsibility but they aren’t up to the mark. But, good test for mental toughness.

Edit: so much for that. Gill has departed.

35 for 6 now.NZ must be wondering why they did not prepare these type of pitches from first match.

What a disgraceful performance by the batting line-up. Rayudu takes a big chunk of the blame, but others failed to grab the chance either.

We will occasionally face such conditions (or worse) in England at the World Cup. This doesn't bode well at all!

87/9. Really cannot expect the last pair to make runs. Kuldeep has a first class century, but anything added by the final pair (Chahal-Khaleel) will be a bonus. Abject!

Chahal will probably remember this innings for a long time: he is India's top scorer!!

We are under 100 because the MO of Rayudu, Karthik, and Kedar were totally crappy. Rayudu bothers me not so much because of his batting, but because of his lack of effort in fielding. Kedar is the one I keep among these because he can bowl. But I am not sure about any of these three oldies. Gill was also beaten several balls. Here's hoping he can bat well in the next game he gets a chance.

Khalil does not look very good either. In essence, we have Pandya, Shami, and Bumrah. I would bring Bhuvi in because he keeps it tight, bats and fields reasonably. Do we need another pacer? If so, I guess I will go back to Ishant. At the last test series, he did do very well with length and line. I would give Khalil a few more games though. In England, we need swing bowlers.

On the same pitch NZ pass the same scoreline under 15 overs. I was expecting similar conditions in NZ for all the matches, not sure why it wasn't so.And our middle order savior Dhoni misses this match.I would have liked to see how his panic free batting would have been on this pitch.

Probably BCCI dictates the type of pitches..
Dhoni conveniently took a break.
Good that this has happened so the selectors at least have some rethink.

We complain when Dhoni is included in the team. We are still complaining when Dhoni is not in the team. In fact, someone from the forum wanted Dhoni to get injured and out of the WC. If he plays slowly because team is 4/3, we complain he played slowly (and not appreciate that team did not get out for 92). We seem not to get enough from him either way.

Looks like the Indian women’s cricket team wanted to emulate their male counterparts. They have recovered slightly though to at least make it a respectful result, regardless of what it turns out to be at the end.
