Asia Cup, 2018
Kohli is rested for the Asia Cup. I do not know why Iyer is dropped. He played well in the chances he got and this is in the subcontinent.
My XI given the team would be:
Dhawan, Rohit, Rayudu, Pandey, Jadhav, Dhoni, Pandya, Kuldeep, Chahal, Thakur, Bumrah
Of course, Bhuvi and Rahul will play. Some of these folks will be dropped. Thakur is #1 and the other possibly may be Pandey.

Re: Asia Cup, 2018
It's crazy that Jadeja is not playing for India in any format now. He has a test bowling average of 23.11 and was the fastest to 150 wickets for any left-arm bowler in the game's history.
And in ODIs, he averages over 31 with the bat (at a strike rate of 85+), and about 35 with the ball at an economy rate of 4.9 -- but is seemingly being punished (in ODIs) for a relatively poor record in T20s (and T20Is).
I don't see the logic of picking Axar Patel ahead of Jadeja, especially when the latter isn't being picked for tests anymore. (That he has been dropped from tests is truly illogical, as it is certainly not based on any decline in performance in that format).

Re: Asia Cup, 2018
Ashwin is the fastest to 300 wickets and until now, the #1 spinner and the only one being played.
Jadeja will play against the Windies at home.
Ashwin will find it hard to come back after this thoroughly embarrassing performance.

Re: Asia Cup, 2018
Given that Pandya is the #7 now, Jadeja has no place in the team. Pandya is #7 because we need three pacers. The rules putting in fielding restrictions in overs 30-40 and the fact that two new balls are being used diminishes the use of a third spinner. Our best two spinners are Chahal and Kuldeep. Their records are much better than that of Ashwin and Jadeja. Jadeja cannot also come in as a pure bat. Whom would Jadeja replace? Why do we need him? We went to the wrist spinners because our fielder spinners could not take wickets in the middle overs and that is vital in ODIs especially because we play a defensive ODI bowler in Bhuvi, who is a restrictive bowler but rarely takes wickets either! Pandya is not a strike bowler in ODIs. So, we need the rest to be wicket-takers. Bumrah, Chahal, and Kuldeep.

I was replying to PKB's post. I know you were speaking about tests. Jadeja should play the next test as the spinner. Axar has bowled better than Jadeja in ODIs.

It seems that Hanuma Vihari will get his test debut tomorrow (replacing Pandya), and that Jadeja will replace Ashwin.

This ODI team looks somewhat old. I hope the fielding standards do not slip.
Old: Dhoni (37), Jadhav (33), Karthik (33), Dhawan (32), Rayudu (32)
Young: Khaleel (20), Kuldeep (23), Axar (24), Bumrah (24), Hardik (24)

The first match will be against Hong Kong. We should rest Bumrah because he has had played four tests back to back. Maybe let Kumar rest too. Play Shardul and Khaleel. Among the batsmen, I would rest Dhawan and play Rahul.

Re: Asia Cup, 2018
Sri Lanka's batting has become so crappy that they got knocked out by Afghanistan and Bangladesh. Bad selection in keeping Dickwella, Thirimanne, and, Gunaratne out. Three people who are reasonably good kept out means that their batting became rather weak. As a result the losses.

Re: Asia Cup, 2018
Very weird XI for India here, with Bhuvi batting at #7. DK and Dhoni ahead of him. It’s amazing that DK is still a fixture in the side. A score of 285/7 in 50 overs against Hong Kong doesn’t seem enough.

India heading for defeat, with HK at 57 for no loss after 10 overs.
Rohit Sharma looking clueless as captain.
