Very slow batting by Kohli, Rahul, and Dhawan until the 42nd over :-( Awful. I hope NRR does not come into play.

RSA did us a favor by giving us Shamsi and not Pretorius. Stupid decision on their part. The pacers were the ones who made India sweat and one more would have been handy not to mention his batting skills.

Very poor captaincy too from Holder. When the five pacers had the Aussies hopping, he inexplicably gave Nurse 6 overs, taking all the pressure away and letting the Australians get out of jail..

Some questionable shot making by the middle order too. Starc took out Russel first and then Holder + Brathwaite in the same over. Russel had already hit Starc for a boundary in that over when he got out and Holder/Brathwaite could've waited for Starc to finish and targeted Stoinis, Coulter-Nile like how their team did earlier in the innings. They seemed to be hell bent on using the aerial route.. ironically it was Ashley Nurse who hit consecutive groundstrokes in the last over to make it look like a close loss

The match looked very dodgy with umpires and players all making too many mistakes to make it look suspicious.

Let’s see how India play Aussies especially Starc on Sunday.

India scored 352. Rohit dragged us down. But for his awful innings, we would have gone to 375. This is the Oval where I think New Zealand and England scored close to 400 each in a match and West Indies scored 350+ against England. So, we need good, competent, regularly wicket-taking bowling. Go India!

Conservative batting from Aus meant that they were always just behind the chase, and a comfortable win in the end.

MoM David Warner. He outshone Rohit. Cudos to Indian bowlers for keeping him in check for so long. That was the game. And, then wicket-taking by B'u and Bu' + C'a. Hardik just about held the runs and so did Kuldeep. So, there was no easy respite for them from BhuBumCha. The form of Kuldeep is alarming. I hope he gets some of his chutzpah back from hoodwinking some of the minnows and can continue to be taking wickets. We need him to fire.

Haha! There must have been some help there for the new ball bowlers, since all four openers started very cautiously.

An easy 36-run win in the end -- always nice to beat Australia in a World Cup (especially when they are the holders). Terrific performance by Dhawan, Kohli, Pandya, and good cameos from Rohit, Dhoni and especially Rahul. Then superb bowling by Bhuvi in particular -- first a complete scoring squeeze in his first spell, then the wickets of Smith and Stoinis off successive balls -- as well as Bumrah and Chahal made the victory possible. Very nice team effort, including an incredible catch by substitute Jadeja. I hope the latter plays the rest of the tournament ahead of Jadhav.

Yes, Warner almost handed the match to us with his slow play. In IPL too in later matches, he had become too cautious. He was in the same mould yesterday which hampered their chances. Anyway, 350+ was always going to be difficult and Bhuvi bowled brilliantly yesterday better than Bumrah for change.

I think toss made the difference. I would be interested to see if India can pull off a 350+ chase against say someone like NZ, Eng or Pak. What happens when you're on the receiving end like CT final, do we have the tools to complete it and have we learnt our lessons?

I would like our bowlers to bowl well such that we never have to chase 350. At the end, I just care that we bring home the cup. By any means :-) I mean legal means. As do all of us here. Now, rain has put a spanner in the works. South Africa won't like that. It seems England, India, NZ, and Australia are the leading four by form. West Indies looks threatening at times and Pakistan ... maybe even Sri Lanka can do things to make it tough for teams. But the first four seem to have the inside track, imho.

Important win for India! Agree they now have an inside track to the top 4 to advance to the next stage.

Bad news! Dhawan ruled out for the rest of the World Cup due to a fractured thumb.
