National Cricket Team Players (India)
Creating a thread for players who represented India. We have a domestic players thread but for the internationals we have to stick it in to domestics or in the respective series that is on-going.
Rohit Sharma seems to be becoming a domestic dada. He has only succeeded in India (9 tests) and had done decently in New Zealand (2 tests, avg. 40). He has failed miserably (under 35 and in most cases under 30) in Australia, England, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, West Indies, South Africa. Don't know why we are taking him to RSA. Maybe he has truly improved? My gut feeling says "no", but let's see.

Re: National Cricket Team Players (India)
On Pant's keeping and going forward: Former Keepers So even though his batting may be okay, his keeping needs a lot of work it seems. There is no point going back to Parthiv or Karthik. Let's have Bharat if we want to drop Pant. Of course, there is very little chance that that will happen in the first test against WI. But, if he keeps badly, we may see Bharat, MSK's favorite from his state. Bharat is a good keeper but I do not know if he is the best after Saha. Among the top 4/5 young keepers in India, he is possibly the worst bat too despite his triple century in the Ranjis. He did score a century against Australia A and was the highest scorer in the innings, a match that India won though. He averages about 36 in the Indian domestics, which should project to about 23 or so internationally?
Here are the international and domestic averages of our keepers batting-wise:
Dhoni 37, 38 (+1)
Saha 43, 31 (-12)
Parthiv 44, 31 (-13)
Karthik 41, 25 (-16)
Mongia 38, 24 (-14)
More 31, 26 (-5)
Kirmani 30, 27 (-3)
Going by more recent trend, except Dhoni, Bharat should be projected to about mid 20s batting-wise. Of course, the projection can be wrong; that is why they play the game.

Re: National Cricket Team Players (India)
Dhoni has played 10 completed ODI innings this year and averages 25.2 at a SR of 68. He is 37. Why do we not move on to Pant? Kohli has this 0ld-guy-ism flaw in his captaincy. He mistreated Nair and forced the selectors to bring back Rohit, a proven failure. We need some selectors with some b*lls instead of the wimp MSK.

Re: National Cricket Team Players (India)
Sachin was ordinary in tests for two whole years 2012-2013 before he retired. Dhoni has been a liability for a year and not a finisher for longer than that. In ODIs, Sachin had one bad year 2012 and then went away. Interestingly, he played one T20I and scored 10 runs. Why did they even get him if they were to play him only one match?

What an excellent read! Few pieces of it made me emotional. If Pujara ever wants his (auto)biography to be written, he should pick this writer.

Hardik is also out with a back issue. He may be out for five months or so if he has to get surgery. When is our next away tour?

Re: National Cricket Team Players (India)
Ah. A bad place not to have Hardik. We need to ask Bhuvi to bulk up his batting in the next three months. Shami, Ishant, Bhuvi will be good. Of course, Bumrah walks in place of Shami if fit.

Re: National Cricket Team Players (India)
Pant is not that bad a keeper. He has the highest dismissals/innings among keepers who have 20 dismissals in test cricket in the last decade. But, I suppose if a metric puts up Pant, Kamran Akmal, and Parthiv Patel, it is possibly not measuring pure keeping skills. Our bowling has been good in the last 11 tests though and this is a bit of a testimony towards that. South Africa plays in the most hostile wickets at home. So, de Kock has good numbers.

Re: National Cricket Team Players (India)
Prithvi Shaw is back. He spent time with Dravid at the NCA. Dravid, in my opinion, is a "gentleman". Apart from technical issues, I hope Shaw got some advice about how to keep it clean and conduct himself with integrity.

Re: National Cricket Team Players (India)
There's a lot of chatter about Shaw not being able to handle the high life of a star. But I hope he can just concentrate on his cricket. This was the one innings he played in Australia before the injury that derailed his career and eventually led to worse things:
