Re: National Cricket Team Players (India)
Having talent means diddly squat. Other than Australia, in ODIs, nobody has done it consistently. Systems matter. Australia have a professional setup and the talent and the money and it shows. We do not have the setup.
In T20Is, it is much easier to win and it is a bit of a lottery. England won two again because they have deployed better strategy. They play fearless cricket. Win or lose. West Indies has won two. They too go for big shots, which is what T20 cricket is about. India, Australia, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan have won each. They need to improve on the modern game.

Re: National Cricket Team Players (India)
Jurel could more likely find his way into team . Truly multi format player. He replaced Upendra Yadav in UP team (who had to play for different Ranji team) . With him playing for RR, he is definitely going to have opportunity to make his case in T20 as well . He could be dark horse candidate for that second keeper spot for WC. Has an IPL SR of 172 with average of 21 (only 13 innings, so small sample size) . Actually had better stats in IPL than domestic T20 league. Is he good keeping to spinners?Rajkumar Sharma wrote: ↑Mon Jan 08, 2024 3:46 am They are finding tough to leave out Bharat. Kushagra is very much down in that list. Pant, KL, Ishan, Samson, Jitesh....list is quite long enough
Rahul Dravid did a great job at NCA.. we had a steady stream of players with potential that came out of that u19 pipeline. I am not sure VVS is good enough.

Who did Dravid bring forward? Gill, Iyer, Washi? ... Bumrah? Yashasvi?

How Deepak Hooda vanished from T20Is? He was in news for batter who can bowl, century in Ireland, one asia cup game against Pak, warmed in the bench for whole 2022 T20 WC and now nowhere

This is another of these eye-test problems. People decided he was not that good and he is gone. Stupid and sad. At least he could bowl a few and did not waste balls (mostly).

Re: National Cricket Team Players (India)
Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer, Mohammed Siraj, Jaiswal, Pant… probably Washington as well. all of this players were under Dravid.
U could always ask may be they were genuine talents and may have made it without Dravid support .. and it is possible
I think he is better suited for u19 group where he can work on their techniques with lot more freedom
When u have an IPl average of 18 and SR of 128, with bowling average of 50, u can kiss your international career hoodbye

Re: National Cricket Team Players (India)
Yes, Siraj moved so much forward with Dravid that he leaked 76 runs in his debut Odi match and 53 runs in his first T20 match, and was about to vanish. Under Dravid he became a run machine, till Virat gave him confidence and Bharat Arun, who turned him as a lethal bowler. High profile foreign coach would have been fired by BCCI if a team had lost 50 Ovr WC, T20 WC & WTC under him. Give him 5 years more, team will again land safely in same position like present

Re: National Cricket Team Players (India)
I have problems with his choice of bowling coach and batting coach. His player selection has been very poor as well. And less said about his strategy.
The current u19 team did not even qualify for the finals of Asia cup. Just because Dravid failed as national coach, don’t trash on his credentials as U19(NCA coach).

Ishan Kishen strategy is very smart.

Instead of toiling away in domesric cricket. Prepare for IPL, which is direct pathway to India T20 squad for WC and potentially indian test team. There was a good chance that he would have been found wanting as wicket keeper in indian pitches.

Re: National Cricket Team Players (India)
I think he is just lazy. He could have played the domestics and tests if needed. He does not care for test caps. Wants to be a white ball cricketer. So, he is relaxing. Then, he will play the IPL and use it to come back. Honestly, the selectors have created this monster by giving SkAY a test cap and keeping deserving people like Sarfaraz out. So, the players are reacting to that. If you are only going to consider IPL success, then people will game the system and try to make a comeback that way.

Especially if he feels that he cannot overtake Pant in test. I would have agreed with that approach if Pant did not get injured. There is a good chance that Pant takes at least another 2 years to start keeping and there is a good opportunity to make the test squad.
He will get selected for test especially if he has success in IPL and also does well well in WC

Re: National Cricket Team Players (India)
Finally an article that talks about some of the things we have raised here. The fact that Dravid heavily promoted KSB from his A days seems to be compounding the problem. When u are a coach, u need to be smart about cutting your losses and moving on.. Dravid appears to be not doing it.

Article talks about Dravid's efforts to set up A program and build up bench strength. The A program under Laxman seems rudderless. Really afraid when he takes up coaching helm. Has zero success with SRH.

Re: National Cricket Team Players (India)
Kumar, this is a meh article. Focuses on KSB, primarily. The elephant in the room is Rohit. We also need to groom a captain. Moreover, waiting for Pant without grooming anyone else is going to perpetuate the situation. This is the time to do so if KSB is not cutting it. Prolonging first class experience is wasting time. I’ll take Prasen’s formula to pick someone with good stats rather than bad stats but we need to blood those future players now.
Most of the other points in the article are idealistic. In reality, nationally contracted players are given a free pass by BCCI to do whatever they please.

This is much old problem but its time for BCCI to react. Certain youths are thinking themselves bigger then the game
