Ishant Sharma has done okay. If he does this consistently that will be good. Bumrah demonstrates the value of FC cricket.

Rohit is awful with the bat. We lost a chance to evaluate Nair/Iyer and give Rahane a chance to get his form back. Patel is awful with the gloves and not really that great with the bat. He averages 6.5 in NZ, 32 in Aus, and 26 in Eng. Reluctantly, I would go back to Saha. Ask him to keep batting eight hours a day on a fast practice pitch or something that makes sense.

28.83 in Australia, 6 in Bangladesh, 17 in England, 10.85 in RSA, 25 in WI. And Kohli thinks Rohit is in smashing form (abroad). He did okay in NZ. In SL, he averages poorly too 33. In 16 tests away, he averages 24.55. How many more tests will he get? More importantly, why do Rahane, Nair, Iyer, etc. do not deserve the same chances?

There must be far too much endorsement money behind Rohit Sharma. So he cannot be dropped.

Can't see our tail contributing much, so if Pandya and Ashwin don't get a decent score, we may not even get 250. Bhuvi would have been so useful. Dropping him was so stupid, but common sense and Indian selections don't go together.

Ravi Shastri is poisonous. Having him as team coach is a recipe for disaster.
And Kohli is severely infected by his poison.

The most probable scenario imho is that RSA will gain a 50-60 run lead. Shami, Bumrah, Ishant is a huge tail. We should never have this. They don't provide enough with the ball to justify the weakening of this already weakened batting lineup (Rohit for Rahane).

With Kohli still being there, in my opinion, India would reach close to 300 with help from Pandya and Ashwin. Bhuvi would have been very useful out there. Parthiv batted with confidence and should be retained for 3rd test as well. Bhuvi should definitely be IN place of Shami/Bumrah (well any of the ballers).

Hopefully, India stays close to SA in this test match. I never expected India to win the away series against [Aus, SA, NZ, Eng], no matter who plays. It was good that India only lost by about 60-70 runs in first test.

I am not enthused by losses where the other team won by 20% more than what India scored in two innings. If the objective is not to win or at least draw against the SAE countries, then why bother watching. It gets boring if everything is predictable.

The few runs more Parthiv scores with the bat is not worth the several lives he gives the opponent. This Indian team cannot get 20 wickets abroad. Now we are asking it to get 30 with Parthiv dropping 2-3 an innings and the slip fielders doing the rest. We cannot get better slip fielders but maybe we can get the better keeper if he recovers from his injury for the next test. Of course, ideally, I would like to see someone other than these two but now we are stuck with them.

Rahane and Saha add enough in the field to justify their selection. Parthiv needs to make a century in the second innings to justify his selection.

Bhuvi should always be in the XI. But tell that to Shastri!!

I'll take a 70 from Parthiv in I2. Or even a 60.

3 of the 4 run outs were just silly. Only Amla one was exceptional fielding by Pandya. Not sure why Pandya even thought there was a run in it by playing it straight to short mid on. Is he in T20 mode??? Need to know the importance of your wicket in Test matches unlike the shorter form where it does not matter many times.
