This is really disappointing. Especially after that dominating win in the first match. What the hell happened that they conceded a huge total to SL?

Absolute shocker of a performance. Our batting against spin was shockingly poor, although the Sri Lanka bowlers used classical flight rather well -- in an old-fashioned way that is rarely visible in international men's cricket any longer. It was the bowling that really let us down, conceding a huge total to a side that we used to routinely beat until quite recently. The SL women have obviously gotten a lot better, while ours have gone down in quality.
After Diana Eduljee's remarks, it was even more imperative that the team do well. They were talking about winning the whole thing after that first win over WI, but have instead crashed and burned, finishing last in their group. Nothing could have damaged Indian women's cricket more than this -- especially in a home World Cup.

It is truly depressing to see India lose to SL of all teams -- the English and Aussie teams have always been a notch above ours but we should be beating SL. True, SL beat England and must be a good team but they lost to WI. BCCI should ensure that our team gets to play matches, both domestic and international, on a regular basis.

Mithali Raj got a century as India comfortably beat Pakistan to finish 7th. But Mithali's failures in the previous three games probably played a big part in India's futile run in the World Cup. That, coupled with the failure of the bowlers (with the slight exception of Jhulan Goswami, who bowled well in 3 of the 4 games, the exception being against SL, when she did get a couple of wickets but was unusually expensive).

Sadly, the history is stacked against us. While we may make incremental progress over many years, others leapfrog us.suresh wrote:It is truly depressing to see India lose to SL of all teams -- the English and Aussie teams have always been a notch above ours but we should be beating SL.
