Re: U19 Quad Series in Australia - Apr 2012

Post by prashanthm »

After a disastrous Round-Robin Phase where India lost all it's 3 matches, very easily against AUS & NZ and a close one against ENG, Unmukt Chand pulled India through to the finals with a measured 94 against England in the Semi-finals.

In the finals, the Indian bowlers came up with an impressive performance to restrict AUS to a very low total and Chand once again played a skipper's knock by scoring an unbeaten 112 to win the cup for India....

Congratulations & All the best for U19 WC guys!

So the team obviously took time to get acclimated. Once it did, it started winning -- and took the title despite losing all the preliminary matches. Nice preparation for the U19 World Cup though!

What a bizarre tournament format. Essentially, the round-robin league was practice and for setting up the seedings. I suppose they did this because this is U-19s we are talking about and most of them perhaps have never toured or played in Australia.

Our u-19 team missed a chance of beating Pakistan in u-19 Asia cup final ... We lost too many wickets towards the end of the innings as the U-19 Asia Cup final against Pakistan ended in a thrilling tie.

India, Pakistan share honours in U-19 Asia Cup after thrilling tie

Most matches seem to be low-scoring ones there. India bowled PNG out for 97, to win by 107 runs.

Good opportunity for us ... Pakistan' decision of batting first was backfired on them ... Our bowlers bowled with tight line and Pakistan managed only 136 runs ... For us Sandeep Sharma 24/3 and Ravikant Singh 43/3 bowled well ... For Pakistan, their only 3 batsmen managed double figure ... Their captain Babar Azam scored half-century (50), Umar Waheed (27) and bowler Ehsan Adil (35) ... They were 98/8 but Ehsan Adil hit 4 sixes to helped them to score 130+ score.

In reply we had poor start ... We were 8/3 after 5 overs ... Our in-form captain Unmukt Chand got out on 0 but after that Vijay Zol and Baba Aparajith played well ... Zol got run-out after 66 runs partnership ... We still need 63 runs ... 74/4 after 25 overs.

Edited - B. Aparajith got out on 51 ... 122/6 ... We need 15 run from 13 overs.

We still need 12 runs with 2 wkts remaining, reminds me of Asia cup recently where we scrwed up from match winning position.

seems like it will be the same case here...

Now its 127/9, 10 more runs needed... :damn:

Now those last 4 sixes by Pakistan tailenders are proving to be a mountain to climb...

Managed to win by 1 wicket and enter into the semis ... :D

As Ankit mentioned in his post we were 127/9 but Harmeet Singh (12*) and Sandeep Sharma(1*) scored 10 runs in 7 overs.

Pakistan Under-19s 136 (45.1 ov)
India Under-19s 137/9 (48.0 ov)
