But, if you have a stacked batting lineup like that, you need to take more risks earlier. After the top-3 went, okay, consolidate for maybe 3-4 overs (20% of the resources at max), and then start hitting at least 1-2 big shots an over. And, do not leave it only to one batsman. The other cannot just score at a run a ball and expect the run-rate not to go up. This is the Dhoni equation that has not worked for a long time. It is flawed strategy. And he still will keep employing that. Someone needs to take charge and fix this flawed thinking.

Forget the big shots! Take single! From 42-4 in 8 overs, they just scored 61 in 13 overs ! If they had scored 6 pro in that span they could have won that game!

Also Dhoni was clearly mot timing well! But he continued to take 2 runs instead of giving strike to Curran who hit a first ball there are no exciting young names in this team! I still have huge respect for Dhoni, but he needs to change the composition of his team

Dwayne Bravo is one of the all-round greats in T20s. His batting average in T20s is 5 runs/innings higher than Sam Curran's at a slightly lower strike rate. Dhoni's captaincy and tactics are getting more weird with every match. When there is still so much batting to come -- Curran and Bravo -- he should not be batting as if the team would collapse as soon as he got out. If he is going to bat this way, he should send Bravo and Curran ahead of him. Like in that World Cup SF, Jadeja did all the hitting while Dhoni hung around. But once Jadeja was out, Dhoni needed to accelerate a bit -- but didn't. That's where his side lost the match.

Good to see Kohli find form with an excellent 72* in a winning effort. RCB are suddenly looking very good this year, with Padikkal as opener making a huge difference.

The other match today (KKR vs DC) is in Sharjah, and the young pacers (Mavi and Nagarkoti) were taken to the cleaners on the small ground, particularly by Prithwi Shaw (66 off 41) and Shreyas Iyer (88* off 36). Sunil Narine is continuing to fail with bat and ball, so it's time that KKR dropped him.

KKR does not seem to have any serious bat given that Karthik is waning and Gill is not there yet.

Okay, about 4 games are done. Here are the Indian batting leaders (qual: 115 runs, sorted by SR).

Samson 42@199, Mayank 61.5@166, Rana 32.5@156, Iyer 56.66@150, Rahul 79.66@148, Rohit 42.5@145, Kishan 63.5@141.

That's a pretty decent lineup. Rana has been a big hitter but he faded last year. I think he is worth trying out in A-team tours as is Kishan.

If you want lower oder, Hardik and Tewatia have good SRs but not enough chances/runs yet. This Tewatia guy has a good T20 SR for his career. Is he worth trying in the A-teams?

KKR have Eoin Morgan and Andre Russell, but they should be batting ahead of skipper Karthik, who seems past his prime.

True. And Rana is not bad and can give you a cameo.

Axar Patel, Rabada, Ashwin and Nortje are quite a powerful bowling side for Delhi Capitals, who also have some fine batsmen in Shaw, Dhawan, Pant and Stoinis .

Now Bhu Ku is hurt again. I wonder if he is trying to bowl too fast and putting more strain than his body can get. Instead of trying to bulk up and bowl fast, he should try to study McGrath and bowl at say 130-135 kph and not higher. Of course, I have not gotten any of his injury reports, etc. This is just a conjecture from observing him and his injury record available publicly.

Among the bowlers, interestingly, DL Chahar is again among the top. We should give him a fair chance in our T20 team to consolidate his position.

Chahal is tops among the Indian bowlers. 8 wk@18, 7.57. Shami 8 wickets@19.12, 8.19. R.D. Chahar 6 wk@22.5, 7.94.D.L. Chahar 5wk@29.8, 7.84 (most economical among Indian pacer with 5 or more wickets). Bumrah 7wk@25, 8.8 (expensive).

Bumrah, Shami, Chahar, Hardik and Chahal is not a bad lineup.

Actually all the old guys: Watson, Rayudu, Dhoni, and Kedar were too slow. They needed people to score at 140. None of them did. But Kedar batted at a SR of 58 in a T20. Incredibly bad. Curran and Jadeja had too much left for them.

Gill is giving us some runs but is slow. Given that we have more hard-hitting options in Mayank, Rohit, and Prithvi, I think Gill should be told to focus on tests and ODIs. These three along with Rahul and Samson have been the ones who can actually hit out if facing a big total. For the bottom-order Hardik and a few newbies are showing they can use the long handle.

Strange that CSK never showed any interest in chasing the such a small target with only 5 wickets down. Not surprising anymore why every one is calling it an Indian Fixed League.

When they 78 of last 10; in 9 overs they scored only 54. Absolute rubbish.

Rayudu was 20 of 13 balls! Then next 10 runs in 14 balls.
Dhoni and Kedar 18 of 24; including Kedar refusing a single of first ball of 20th
Jadeja was 7 of 5 balls
Watson was 47 of 33 and eventually got out at 50 of 40 balls!

We have seen Dhoni and Jadhav do this repeatedly over the past 3-4 years in international cricket, and now they can't score at 130-140 SR in IPL either.

This is their level, nothing needs to be fixed.
