Australia's tour of India

Post by BSharma »

I wonder if Ponting would be complaining about the pitch in Mumbai if Australia had won the match.

Australia's tour of India

Two very contrast articles by two Australian legend wrote in Hindu ...

Nice article by Greg Chappell ... He touched every cord including Pitch fiasco and Australian mind set ...

http://www.hindu.com/2004/11/08/stories ... 162100.htm

And typical Ian Healy article, but here interesting part is how he rated Dinesh Karthik ... One of best wicketkeeper commented on fellow debutant wicketkeeper ...

The dates and venues of Australia's LOI tour of India has been announced. See schedule
Sept 12 - warm-up game, Chennai
Sept 17 1st ODI, Chennai
Sept 21 - 2nd ODI, Kolkata
Sept 24 - 3rd ODI, Indore
Sept 28 - 4th ODI, Bengaluru
Oct 1 - 5th ODI, Nagpur
Oct 7 - 1st T20I, Ranchi
Oct 10 - 2nd T20I, Guwahati
Oct 13 - 3rd T20I, Hyderabad
I really hope we play Mohammed Shami. He needs to be developed more for the WC especially honing his skills at the end overs. I also want to see Chahal and Kuldeep being given a full series together. Australia will be a very good team in the flat pitches of India because they have modeled their team to choose hard hitters, which means they are vulnerable when conditions favor bowlers and are very good in batting conditions. I also think that both Manish and Kedar should be given a long run. Unfortunately, Rahul and Rahane should have to wait --- in that order.

Australia began their tour with a thrashing of a weak Indian Board President's XI -- comprising those not picked for the three teams playing the Duleep Trophy (and most of the India first XI), so basically an India E team. The outstanding bowling performance was by young Washington Sundar (not yet 18) who took 2/23 in 8 overs including the wickets of Smith and Maxwell.
The top score with the bat came from Sreevaths Goswami (who also conceded no byes behind the stumps and picked up Warner's catch). Maybe he should be a contender for the ODI 'keeper's slot too (alongside Pant and Ishan Kishan) after Dhoni.

Shami and Umesh have returned to the ODI squad (replacing Shardul Thakur). Still no place for Ashwin (who is playing county cricket) and Jadeja (who just seems to have become a test specialist in the selectors' eyes). Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal continue to be picked as the spinners alongside Axar Patel.

Pandya wins the first match for us after a top order collapse.

There is zero point of continuing to play Rahane as an opener and the Manish Pandey at #4 experiment continues to falter despite his obvious talent at lower levels.

Yes, Rahul as opener and Dhoni as #4. I'm happy to see Kuldeep and Chahal having identical career figures of 14 wickets in 8 matches at about the same fabulous average and run rates. We should keep using them to give them experience and to see if they can cut it.

This Australia team's batting is partially built to play on flat pitches. Let us give them pitches with some assistance to bowlers. The genuine batsmen are Warner, Smith, Head. Among the all-rounders, those who have more than 35 FC average, include Maxwell and Stoinis. Maxwell cannot bat on bad wickets. Stoinis is starting off and is a question mark. Let us give them Stoinis. So, they have basically 4 bats! Wade is crap. And tough wickets will neutralize Maxwell and Faulkner. Cartwright has a very good FC average but he has only played 20 matches and is inexperienced on the sub-continent. Any smart opponent should throw wickets with some juice in them. The more classy bats who could have played on tough wickets, Bailey, Voges, and Ferguson, have been pushed out. That will cause them problems. However, given that the ICC tournaments are held on pretty flat wickets, if they don't care for bilateral series, then perhaps an all-rounder laden team (or perhaps more aptly a jack-of-all-trades master-of-none players team) will be just fine.

The batting is struggling in the series against Australia. We can't always hope to have Pandya and the lower order rescue the team.

What a fabulous pair of wrist-spinners!! Will Ashwin and Jadeja ever get into the ODI side again??!

Kuldeep was having a poor game, but the hat-trick transformed his figures. Chahal has been splendid today: marvellous control for a wrist-spinner.

Bhuvi finishes with figures of 6.1-2-9-3.

Hopefully that satisfies prasen9 that Bhuvi is a wicket-taker in ODIs!!

Terrific bowling figures from Bhuvi, a hat-trick by Kuldeep, a stranglehold and wickets from Chahal, and yet the MoM goes to a batsman (Kohli for his 92). When will bowlers get their due in this game?

Anytime, anyone takes 3 wickets at under 4-5 runs/over, I am satisfied. These are unworldly numbers!

Everyone has a good day. This (the last two series) is indeed progress. I think he should always be played where there is some moisture in the air/swing. His average in ODIs is still 36 runs/wicket, the worst among the bowlers who play ODIs for India perhaps in the last 2-3 years (put a qual of 10 matches or even 5 matches to keep out the flukes). I don't hate him or anything. I think we play him less in tests, where we should play him more.

If Australia keeps choosing ball-bashers, we should keep making wickets that assist bowlers. Don't give them a flat track and their technical deficiencies will come out.
