Re: Indian domestic cricket/ players
Meanwhile the pitch they are playing on Mumbai vs Saurashtra seems to be a batting pitch. Rahane used it to score a century. Which is better than the alternative. And guess who is to come to bat next: Pujara. Both get the flat pitch to get their form back. But, does that mean they will succeed in international cricket? Who knows. Let's see what the selectors do. The safer choice would be to give the youngsters a chance and ask R&P to prove themselves a bit more in domestics.
We really need to go to a 8 team Division 1 and keep stats separately between Division 1 and Division 2. Let teams sign players from anywhere in India. Or even abroad.

Re: Indian domestic cricket/ players
This was a brilliant knock, which the newspapers have ignored today -- to instead talk about the 341 made by a Bihar player against Mizoram in the Plate division. It is absurd to consider Plate matches first-class. Minor counties in England, for instance, aren't considered first-class, and we should change the classification of Plate matches too -- because they are heavily distorting players' records.Rajkumar Sharma wrote: ↑Fri Feb 18, 2022 12:34 pm Sarfaraz Khan 275 today. So overall the guy has1 ton, 2 double ton and 1 triple ton. But the problem is domestic performances are not considered for test at present . You have to play IPL to get picked.
Making 275 against the reigning Ranji champions should have led the selectors to sit up and take notice. But they hastily made the announcement of the test squad before even a single match of the first Ranji season in 2 years was completed (in fact, before the end of the 3rd day of the first fixtures of this season). Sarfaraz proved his international ability by making 71* (the top score) for India A against a South Africa A bowling attack that included Marco Jansen (who proved such a success against India in the tests -- and also took 3 wickets in that innings in which Sarfaraz top-scored).

Why IPL cannot be a pathway for T20 selection? Why does Hardik need to play ranji to be selected for T20 team or even ODI?Rajkumar Sharma wrote: ↑Mon Feb 07, 2022 6:21 am Hardik not to play Ranji Trophy

Re: Indian domestic cricket/ players
Yash Dhull got a century in both innings on his first-class debut. And that, against a good bowling side (TN), which actually got the first innings points in that match, as it was called off early since no result was going to be possible.
Bengal beat Baroda by 4 wickets. Easwaran got 79, but Shahbaz Ahmed was Man of the Match; he made 71* to follow his reasonable batting in the first innings and bowling in the second. Krunal Pandya failed with the bat in both innings for Baroda, and didn't bowl much.
Basil Thampi got 4/43 and Jalaj Saxena 3/28 as Kerala beat Meghalaya in the Elite division by an innings.
Ishwar Pandey got 2/28 (following his 5-for in the first innings) and left-arm spinner Kumar Kartikeya got 5/34 as MP bowled out Gujarat for 88 to win by 106 runs. Shubham Sharma (batting all-rounder) got 2/7 in the second innings with his off-spin, after making 92 and 103* in the 2 innings, batting at #4. Priyank Panchal, picked in the test squad at age 31, made 52 and 5.
Maharashtra beat Assam by an innings. Opener Pavan Shah made 219 on his first-class debut. He is yet to play a T20 or List A match either -- a victim of India's lack of domestic cricket in the past 2 years since he played India under-19.
Uttarakhand beat Services by 9 wickets. Dikshanshu Negi scored 68, and took 2/21 and 3/22 with his medium pace.

Re: Indian domestic cricket/ players
First of all 4 over cricket performance isn't enough to select a player for 50 over or Test, completely differant ball game, differant approach and differant kind of fitness is required. IPL T20 performance can't gurantee a player as best for national team whereas in domestic competition is more vast and players performing in domestic put their name before selectors. IPL can't gurantee a performer to get a franchise or not. For example Tanmay Agarwal, a dashing opener from Hyderabad who is top run getter in SMT 2021 has'nt got a franchise, that doesn't makes him a bad player. Milind top wicket taker haven't got a franchise. So IPL selection depends on interest of the franchise we can't say a player not picked in IPL, performing well in domestic is not fit for India selection. Therefore, player doing well in domestic is comming from much larger aspect then IPL and selectors will have least thinking for that player's selection doing well in domestic.Kumar wrote: ↑Sat Feb 19, 2022 4:25 pmWhy IPL cannot be a pathway for T20 selection? Re: Indian domestic cricket/ players
This is sad. As it is, they do not get enough playing time. They should not be allowed to do this and instead have mandatory overs. Selectors need to send out the word that even when a derby is dead, people should play their best because they are and will be watched for selection to A-teams, etc.

Re: Indian domestic cricket/ players
Rajasthan beat Andhra Pradesh by 158 runs, with Aniket Choudhury (a left arm medium-pacer who averages less than 25 runs/wicket in FC cricket) taking 4/40 and 3/50, skipper Ashok Menaria making 40 and 79 and Mahipal Lomror making 32 and 79.
Hyderabad beat Chandigarh by 217 runs. Medium-pacer Ravi Teja took 3/53 and 6/41 (and also made 32 with the bat) while Vihari made a second innings century.

We are probably talking about the 15 overs (last hour). I actually like the set up. If both teams agree there is nothing to play for, there is not a point. Padding stats during the dead rubber does not provide meaningful information. The risk of injury is also there, when pace bowlers continue to push themself in a meaningless cause. Batsman approaching perosnal stats typically do not agree to it.

Yes, if it is the 15 overs before end of play, that is fine. And, yes, with the likes of Kirmani bowling, etc. that used to be a farce. So, you are right in that. I thought they called off play when half a day was available, etc.

I am still trying to decipher your answer ! Are u saying IPL is an inferior league to Ranji trophy when it comes to selection for T20I team?Rajkumar Sharma wrote: ↑Sun Feb 20, 2022 12:40 pmFirst of all 4 over cricket performance isn't enough to select a player for 50 over or Test, completely differant ball game, differant approach and differant kind of fitness is required. @PKB, you missed the performance of another U19 standout who was the only player from u19 to win MoM. It was Nishant Sidhu( one of Raj’s three choices to make WC) with unbeaten 93 runs and 2 wickets for Haryana in a drawn match against a weaker tripura team.

Re: Indian domestic cricket/ players
IPL performance should'nt be considered for 50 overs & Test Cricket. For 50 overs, Vijay Hazare Trophy should be given importance and Ranji Trophy for Test.Kumar wrote: ↑Tue Feb 22, 2022 10:57 amI am still trying to decipher your answer ! IPL performance is also not worthy for T20 team selection in certain case because a domestic performer in Syed Mustaq Ali T20 Trophy might not get bid in IPL because selection of players in IPL teams depends on franchise's interest who are making bids and buying the players, you can't say that top wicket taker and top run getter of SMA T20 is not worthy for international cricket. Tanmay Agarwal, who is top run getter in SMAT 2021 or Milind top wicket taker in SMAT 2021 haven't got any franchise in IPL, doesnt makes them bad or can't be of international standard

Great step by team management in preparing pool of 35 players

I think we should debate on back up players with respect to automatic choice players
