Beside Chahal Ashwin Bhisnoi Pant debate. Our ABD automatic choice, now King Kong SKY continues as usual fashion of bashing the minnows/weak opponents and failing misearably against top sides specially against Pak spinners. Looks dark if Hong Kong is removed from the stat. He got lots of over to bat in this Asia Cup in nearly every games. Offcourse you can't criticize players everytime but these guys have played alot now and haven't delivered when it was expected, now we are not even reaching the knockouts of multi nation events.

Great to see V Iyer getting a game in duleep trophy. Pace bowling allrounders are rare in Indian cricket. They need long exposure in domestic & A level games to come out as product.

Sarfaraz Khan struggling to score when it matters. This could reduce his chances from getting picked for upcomming Test series. He is getting quite good amount of chances but have failed to capitalize. Ruturaj showing class now in longest format, this ton can open his chance in test format. On the other hand WZ aafter smashing weak NEZ is now struggling against CZ. Rahane after smashing double ton against weak NEZ falls cheaply against stronger opponent.49 from Mayank Agarwal is not enough for his return.

Kumar Kartikeya, left arm wrist spinner showing his worth. This man has got skills to be the new sensation, might be seen soon in India colours, definately be in the eye of selector when Kuldeep is not performing.

We should avoid choosing on the basis of flukes. Ruturaj did score a 100 here but his FC record is very, very poor. He needs to have 1-2 seasons of good performance in FC cricket consistently before he is given a test spot. Of course, this selection committee is clueless and chooses on the basis of IPL in tests and in T20Is on the basis of tests, etc. So, this sort of thing will happen. People who can hardly bat against Indian domestic bowlers will get chances in the test team whereas consistent performers will be kept out on the basis of a few failures.

You want Shardul Thakur as allrounder in away test matches. So, why is he batting at n.o 7 in this A games, he should have batted at n.o 4 or even 5. This A games are for giving proper opportunity to test skills. Shardul can never be an allrounder by batting at n.o 7 in A games and domestic matches he requires promotion to improve his batting skills.

As i mentioned during U19 WC 2022, atleast 3 U19 kids will definately be in senior team radar. Yash Dhull, Nishant Sindhu getting picked for Duleep Trophy and now Raj Bawa for India A, good to see selectors seeing future in them and giving them a stage to perform

Prithvi Shaw has shone in the Duleep Trophy match, making 60 in the first innings (while Rahane and Jayaswal failed), and 104* of a team total of 134/2 so far in the second innings! Rahane and Yeshaswi Jayaswal failed again. They had both made double centuries against the hapless NE Zone team in the previous match. It is really ludicrous to include a NE Zone team, comprising teams that are all weaker even than Tripura.

ICC should take step against all these bullshits to protect the game

Shreyas Iyer should have been there in Odi A series. These are the games where he could have seen his progress on fscing short ball.

Sai Kishore got 7 wickets to ensure a massive 423 run first innings lead for South vs North Zone. And South didn't enforce the follow-on, making it a meaningless second innings. Duleep Trophy format needs amending.

No, #4 is the best bat in the team. Just because you are in an A-team does not mean that you will have the bowler bat opener - reductio ad absurdum. He needs to bat at #7 or #6 and score a lot of runs and learn strategies to bat with the tail, hit when required, etc. These are not skills that you use at #4 and the ball is much newer especially if the openers are out and the bowlers are fresh. This is also NZ-A where they sent the likes of Rachin R. etc., i.e., a very strong team worthy of respect. Shardul can be a bowling all-rounder, i.e., the fifth bowler who can bat abroad especially when we are playing four pace bowlers in tests. We cannot afford four #11s as we have played in the past.

He will continue to be an average allrounder if he his not promoted in this A games. He bats at 7 for India in test as an allrounder and batting performances is expected from him which he failed in SA tour & 3rd test against England. If he fails, then no point of including him as an allrounder it would be better to include pure batsman or a pure bowler. He will learn nothing if he is not exposed to such situation in domestic or A games. If we see past players like Prabhakar, Styris all started quite similar like Thakur but later they evolve their game through promotion in batting and gave the team both services

He will not learn to bat as a #4 if he is not exposed to being a #4 and that is perfectly fine. Please get it into your head that everyone fails at some time or the other. Cherrypicking failures and ignoring successes smacks of an agenda: that of distorting the whole record and sensationalizing. He has a bowling average of 24.5 and a batting average of 19.5 in tests. A batting average of 19.5 in tests does not make him an all-rounder. In the history of tests, the #7 has averaged 27.73. Clearly, Thakur is not that quality. I can guarantee that Thakur cannot average that number. We will have to play a batting allrounder who is a spinner at #7. However, if we are going to have to go for four pace bowlers and Hardik cannot play, then we need to find someone who can give us between 25-30 runs with some regularity. Thakur is not that and there is no point pretending and playing him at #4. If we play him at #4, it does not mean he can average about 28 runs/innings. We need a true bowling allrounder.

If you look at #8, they average 21.3. Thakur is not a good #8.

He is a very good as a #9 batsman: average 15.53.

We have been crazy that we do not demand our bowlers bat and at least be average of what the world around us are bing. Just average. We are horrendous when we play Siraj, Bumrah, Umesh, Shami, and Ishant and that too four of them. All of them are #11s, okay #10s at best and none of them are even an average #9. Maybe Bumrah is improving. We will see.

Given this, Thakur is being played as a #7 batsman where he should really be the third pacer when we play 3 pacers and two spinners abroad. Or else, we weaken the tail and play him as #8 and the three dud pacers after him.

This is what it is. He does not have it in him to be a #4 and most possibly not even an average #7 or #8 with the bat. In fact, I do not think we ever played him as a #7. Our spinners always came before him and even when we played four pacers, they batted #8, #9, #10 and #11 with Thakur batting #8. He is a subpar #8 and overpar #9.

If you ignore failures in crunch games, then there is no point of playing the game.We cant enjoy test success only at home,
get beaten in WTC away and declare the team based in the world.Test cricket has now matter and if you fail then its a loss in ICC event. There is no point of boasting with home wins and useless excuses of defeats in away test. Thakur appeared in the test scene performing in crucnch games both with bat and ball and people developed strong belief on him a quickfire 40/50 followed by breaking some important partnership. Thing is not about promoting him to bat at 4 for India, thing is about batting at 4 in domestic or A level game to improve his batting skills, not to throw away his wicket through blind hitting. Jadeja best in the world bat at 6/7 for India, but there is massive work made on him by Saurastra coach Debu Mitra to promote him at 4 for Saurastra, in reply he answered with 3 triple tons. If Thakur is persisted with as an allrounder then he should be given more opportunity at domestic level to grow as an allrounder as there is no one in domestic have that skill to play at 7 in away test.

I think Sharmaji is trying to say we dont have any pace bowling allrounder who can do the job in away test. We only have Pandya, who retired and Thakur who have done the job under Shastri. With Dravid as coach, we dont see early exit of Shreyas or Vihari with few failure. Pujara debate is now over and even Rahane is also there for comeback, taking these siituation if we see India A set up i dont see selectors picking Gaikward, Patidar or Sarfaraz in upcomming test series unless anyone gets injured. Yes, there is no harm in sharpening skills by getting promoted in batting position for India A cricket or domestic cricket it can certainly benefit senior team in away test matches.
