I wonder how these squads are being selected. There was no need for zonal selection committees for the last 5-7 years, given that the Duleep Trophy had moved to a India A, B, C format rather than being played among zonal teams.

Interesting that Abhimanyu Easwaran hasn't been picked. He was close to test selection a year ago. He didn't do too badly in the Ranji knock-outs: 65 and 13 against Jharkhand, 22 and 78 against Madhya Pradesh in the SF. Hardly any Assam player in the side, which is dominated by Bengal and Jharkhand.

The biggest surprise in East Zone squad is there is no name of Sakibul Gani of Bihar who smashed 601 runs in 3 games with a triple ton in debut whereas Yash Dhull has been picked by North Zone who played similar number of matches like Gani and is below him in most runs in Ranji season 2021-22. Elite group players getting more advantage then Plate group

Yes, he is. I remembered that awhile after I had posted, and checked that he is in the India A squad for the 'tests' against NZ A, which explains why Tiwary was appointed captain of East Zone, despite having relinquished the job for Bengal.

As for Gani, I think it is perhaps slightly surprising that he wasn't picked, but there is a HUGE gap between Plate and Elite quality standards, as was evident from the thrashing that Jharkhand (Plate champions) received from Bengal in the Ranji QF. (Bengal made 773/7d and Jharkhand were bowled out for 298). Bihar were one of the weaker Plate teams.

Yes differences are there but Jharkhand was in Group H along with Delhi, TN & Chattisgarh and it was an Elite Group

There is a northeastern zone? How many multi-directional zones do we have?

I would suspect only one. The northeast is sort of isolated from the "mainland" and it is not a bad idea in principle to give them a chance to play on the big stage to identify talent. I suspect they are going to be thrashed all around and some players will pad their stats. I wonder for that reason if that is a good idea.

But, in general, the Duleep Trophy performances should be considered with more weights than Ranjis. However, 4-5 matches vs 9-10 matches makes a difference. The Duleep should be played as a league with each team facing each other twice and then we can have a final between the top two. That would give the top players a bunch of games against each other.

Two boring draw in first round of duleep trophy. India A playing NZ A in seam & swing friendly result oriented conditions whereas domestic games are played in flat tracks. Pitches should be made result oriented to make domestic games interesting

Absolutely and so that we know if our batsmen can cut it abroad. That is what we need to know along with whether our pacers can actually bowl in friendly conditions.
