Either Sania should get back with Hingis or retire

As per report she and strycova have parted ways after an underwhelming performance. She will now play with shvedova in the clay court season.

Sania and Shuai Peng are 11th on the WTA Race to Singapore list. Shuai Peng is 9th on the list with Andrea Hlavakova. In effect, this means Shuai Peng has qualified with Hlavackova, given that Mattek-Sands (who is fourth on the list with Safarova) is still out injured. But Hlavackova is already in with Babos (at 6th).

My understanding of the situation is that Sania-Shuai Peng are still one spot away from making it in. The team in 10th place (Klepac-MartinezSanchez) has 510 points more than them, and so will get in ahead of them at the moment.

Sania has a severe knee injury that would probably need surgery. Her season is over. I have doubts about her future also.

Yes, she is out for the remaining season.

Sania Mirza Ends Season Early to Recuperate from Knee Injury
"I've been playing with pain, it has been particularly bad this last month.

It's worse in the morning and in cold weather. Last year, I had seen my doctor and he said that I could play for as long as I could handle the pain. I need to stop now and reassess. Rest or surgery and rehab have been the options all along.

This is a good time to stop for me, I have almost three months to try and heal. Surgery is the last option. I could've taken painkillers and played on, but I think I need to deal with the condition. I've already stretched it for too long.

Even when I serve, each time I load there's pressure on the knee and it hurts. Sometimes even when I walk too much I'm in pain."

No Sania at the Aus Open. Doesn't sound good. Is it the end? Does she have the motivaion to come back from knee surgery at this stage of her career?

No particular reason why it should be the end. She needs knee surgery, and will surely want to come back after it, given that she is still among the top-10 women's doubles players in the world. Let us give her the time and space to recover fully from the injury before she decides her next step.

What is clear is that tennis has been brutal on her body. 3 surgeries and 6 injury breaks during her 6 years as a singles pro, and now this after several injury-free years as a doubles specialist.

She just turned 31. Not that old for doubles, and I think she still enjoys playing it. Unless recovering from the surgery becomes way too hard, I would think she will want to continue.... Probably at least till the next Olympics?

She is hoping to pull a Federer.

“He went out for six months and has done exceedingly well…Hopefully, I will too,” Mirza said. Yeah, well, Fed has done many things. But he's Fed. It's possible with good medical attention, excellent pre-injury fitness, and good genes; but even Fed said that it is very difficult and does not work every time. There's a lot more involved than just physical rehab. The mental aspect can be very crucial too.

This will likely be her biggest career challenge thus far, and it will be fascinating to see if she makes it back to a successful return.
