Sania Mirza Tournaments 2009 ...

Post by jaydeep »

Ok, here is 2009 tournaments thread for Sania ... :D

Sania is starting her comeback from long injury break with World Team Challenge at Hong Kong from 7th to 10th January.
In her first match she is playing against Russian Vera Zvonareva on 7th January.

Here is schedule for J B Group Classic 2009

But Sania's first tournament on WTA tour will be the 2009 Moorilla Hobart International ... Which is starting from 11th to 16th January 2009 ... Sania is well outside MD ... She need to play qualifying if she doesn't get wild-card ... But at same time of Hobart qualifying she is playing Hong Kong exhibition tournament so mostly she is hoping to get wild-card for this tournament.

Good to see her back. Hoping that she gets back to some form by March and be back to the top 50 by June. Best of luck.

:Offtopic:
this tourney is being held since the past decade and was patronized by major worldwide sponsors
but last year when all of a sudden the major sponsors pulled out , this Indian and my occasional hitting partner , a diamond merchant from Bombay, head of the JB group stepped in to sponsor this event.

Let Sania play this tournament and go to aus open directly. I doubt whether a tournament or less would matter. what matters most now is to see how well is she hitting the ball and by when will she reach her best. Finally andmost importantly has she used this break to improve her game. Frankly, our girl will get back to the 20s in ranking. will she be able to enter the top 10, this time?

She definitely needs match practice after the long lay-off, although reports suggest she has done some intensive fitness work in Bangalore. It would not be wise to plunge straight into the Aus Open, so I hope she will be playing somewhere next week.

Sania breaks Chakvetadze to make it 4-4 in the first set! Superb play in the end by Sania there: she cleverly slowed down a point, then unleashed a crushing forehand cross-court shot to set up the BP. Then she came up with a superb backhand service return and dominated the next couple of shots from the baseline to win the game. Sania is BAAAACCCCKKK!!!!
