Sania should be at a career high #31 (at worst 32) when next week's rankings come out. Higher if she wins more.

Yes. She will most probably be at 31 this week. Next week's tounment in Thailand is in all probability her last tournament this year. She has 101 points falling off for the rest of the year.
She needs to earn some points next week to remain close to 35 till year end which will give her a chance to get a seeding at AO.

sameer shes made up 88 of those 101 so really only about 13 pts following off the rest of the year....so a win or 2 next week shuould solidify things for her...

True Arun but currently she is ranked only 37 . To have a reasonable chance for a seeding at AO she needs to be inside 35. Another QF or SF next week will almost ensure that.
Is she loses early next week she may finish the year at 37-38 which may not be enough for seeding at AO.
But I am sure Sania is not thinking too much about it.

Don't forget that she still have a couple of tournaments beginning in 2006 to gain points to ensure a seeding for the Austrailian Open. Seems like everyone here thinks her year end ranking is what will determine her chance for a seeding. Seedings for the Open are conducted one week before the tournament begins. Stop worrying people, there is plenty of time!!!

There are two weeks of tournaments before AO. If the seeding is conducted one week before, she will have one tournament only.

Sania has gained 35 net points for next week -- 63 points for making the SF in the Japan Open, to replace the 28 points falling off from Lagos last year. So her ranking next week will move up just one place, to #36 I think.

No, PKB. ITF points are updated 1 week late. So, her Lagos points come off only next week. So, she should be around 31-32 although it may be only temporary as 57 points fall off over next 2 weeks.

Hearty congratulations to Sania for reaching yet another career-high ranking!
Being the top-30 in the world is something very special, and Sania is on the cusp of achieving what only Vijay Amritraj and Ramesh Krishnan (among Indian tennis players) have achieved in the Open era.

Well all this talk bout points drop off has got me confused but am glad to c that Sania has reached 31...I am ofcourse a bit worried bout the rider added by Sameerph where he says she is to lose 51 points over the next 2 weeks and we know for a fact that her tournament in thaiand is the last for the year.

Sammerph,
does it mean that if she does not win a match in thailand(god forbid!) then she is to lose 51 pts..to put it in a better manner does it mean that her scoring account starts at -51 instead of zero for this week??

I hope someone is able to clear this doubt!

Not quite. Look at the sticky on her points schedule to get a better idea of her points dropoff and how it all works. She loses 95+ points up until January although only 26.75 come off next week (28 drop and 2.25 come back on).

I was avoiding to put this PTI news on our site ... But after looking at their mistake couldn't resist.

Sania climbs to 31 in rankings
Sania, who picked 311 points last week in the USD 170,000 Japan Open :kookoo: , has a total of 966.50 WTA points to her credit.
