To answer potato's question, I think she has some Challenger title points from last October -- which she should have very little trouble defending as she'll be piling up quite a lot of points in Bali and Kolkata I think.

I hope Sania takes Bali off, though PKB will not like it :-)

To answer potato's question, I think she has some Challenger title points from last October
In fact she has 146 points to defend from now on till end of the year. She has already gained 48 from the 1st round win at US open. By rough calculation she will need to gain around 240-250 points in the rest of the year to got to top 30-32 by year end & get a seeding at Australian open.

This is acheivable if she does very well in 1-2 tournaments like Bali, Kolkatta etc. Considering her injury situation, she should ideally take 4-5 weeks rest now. But she may not do so in the middle of the season. She can pick & choose her tournaments . She can skip Bali because she will definately play in Kolkatta. After Kolkatta, there are 6 weeks of tennis calender left. She may play 3 or 4 tournaments out of these & then take a long break of 2 months till end of the year.

But first of all win some more rounds in U.S Open.

The following are above Sania's rank currently (using ranks updated with USO points) and are also younger than Sania: #1 Sharapova, #17 Ivanovic, #23 Vaidisova, #24 Golovin, #31 Anna Tchakvetadze. Interesting to see almost all the young, promising players are Russian or Eas European.

Shitij,
I calculated Sania gaining 134 points from the USO....unless someone behind her had a really good run at the open..i think she should be placed at 35..dislpacing Shuai Peng from that position

can anyone tell me if there is a list of points gained / lost at each tournament by sania in 2005? is there such a list. if not, then can we have one in the sania forum?

for the not so enlightened ones like myself who cannot remember statistics for very long... it would be a help while calculating how many points sania has to defend in 2006 - week wise or tourn wise

If you go to the WTA website and pull up Sania, you will see all of her activity for any year along with how much money and points she accumulated at each event. Hope that helps.

Sure we can make one up. I'll do it up and post it as sticky later tonight.
