PGA Tour 2016

Post by ajay »

CIMB Classic, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

CIMB Classic is the 3rd early PGA tour event of the new season (2016) which is jointly hosted by Asian tour. A win by any Asian tour member who is not current PGA member, will immediately earn the PGA tour playing rights.
Anirban, who has already earned his rights, plays his first tournament for which he can earn FEDEX points. He has already won an European tour event on this course earlier and he looks to be in good form. Hopefully, he makes a good start. But I'd prefer some other Indian wins this tournament so that we can have two Indians playing on PGA tour.

Anirban and SSP just started their 1st rounds at the CIMB classic. Again he is one of the players the media is talking about as one of the top contenders, much like last week in HK.

I have never seen this in any other global sport for an Indian so not sure what to make of it :D

Birdies the last to finish 2 under for the day. Both his irons and putter were off key today so fairly respectable given that.

He can and has gone low on this course before so still everything to play tomorrow if he can start well.

Anirban is T33 after round 1, at 2-under par (8 strokes behind the leader). SSP Chowrasia faded toward the end of the round, finishing even par, which put him at T63.

Anirban finishes the day at -7 after a bogey and birdie on the penultimate hole to be T21 after day 2.... 3 shots behind Top-10...

SSP started off on a disastrous note with a 4+ bogey on the first hole of the day and bogeys on the next two holes to go +6, but pulled it back with 4 birdies and is +2 at 71...

Finished round 3 at -12; 8 birdies but also 3 bogeys spoiling the card. Currently T15 though might fall a spot or two.

Both Anirban and SSP are playing the WGC in Shanghai this week; hoping for a more consistent performance by Anirban.

Anirban gets to play the Hero Challenge this week - the last event on PGA tour for calendar year 2015.
The field consists of 18 players and it's a great chance to pocket World Ranking points and FedEx points.
He plays with Jordan Spieth in the first round tomorrow.

Decent start by Anirban in this small, highly prestigious field of just 18 players. (I wonder how he got invited: the tournament has the 11 top-ranked PGA tour players, the four winners of the majors/alternates, and a couple of special invitees).

Very nice to see that an Indian company is the title sponsor for this prestigious event -- the Hero MotoCorp
