Re: GOLF MAJORS/ WGC Events
Terrific news ... So this will be Shiv's 3rd appearance at The Open and hopefully, he will better his previous best finish at British open, which was tied 73rd in 2013.

Anirban Lahiri has made in to the Open Championship. So it will be 2 Indians in the field.

Anirban Lahiri and Shiv Kapur just completed their first round at the Open Championship and both have scored 3 over par round and are currently tied for 80th position.

Not sure there is enough evidence to support PKB's comment given the level of our players. Shiv Kapur (WR 300) is probably over achieving relative to his current level if he made the cut although he has been in decent form the last several weeks. Anirban was on the cut line until a bogey on the last hole derailed his hopes.

Re: GOLF MAJORS/ WGC Events
I wasn't just talking about Anirban and Shiv, but of our players' history at The Open. I recall Gaurav Ghei was the first to qualify for The Open (and I think that was the first time any Indian had qualified for a golf major) in 1997. But somehow, I don't think any Indian has finished in the top-20 (certainly not top-15) in The Open--whereas Jeev has a 9th place finish at The Masters, and Lahiri a 5th place at the PGA Championship.
For Anirban, this year's performance was a disappointment compared to his debut at The Open (T31 in 2012) or his last two appearances (T30 in 2015, T68 in 2016).

Re: GOLF MAJORS/ WGC Events
Actually, a quick check reveals that Jeev's best performance at a major was also at the PGA championships (9th), not at the Masters' (where his best was 25th place). But at The Open, his best was T69 (worst of all the majors). And Arjun Atwal never made the cut at a major!
Anirban and Jeev really stand out in terms of performance at majors among Indian players! Anirban has not yet made the cut at a US Open, and he has actually done best of all among Indians at The Open over time (although his best-ever personally was at the PGA Championship).

Anirban will be playing at the PGA championships this week, hoping to do better than his 5th place finish 2 years ago (the best by an Indian at any Major).

Re: GOLF MAJORS/ WGC Events
So Anirban is tied at 33rd (along with the favourite Jordan Spieth) after the first day.

Re: GOLF MAJORS/ WGC Events
After 15 holes on day 2, Anirban is in danger of missing the cut. He is on 4-over par, and the projected cut is at 3-over.

Re: GOLF MAJORS/ WGC Events
Anirban birdies the final hole and at 3 over par is almost certain to make the cut. He is currently T-44 with the several players yet to finish the 2nd round.
