The European team blew away the Asian squad on the first day of competition of Royal Trophy in Bangkok, Thailand.  The European golfers handled the scorching heat and windy conditions better than their Asian counterparts and led 3.5 points to 0.5 point at the end of the first day.  The pair of Jeev Milkha Singh and South Korean Yong-eun Yang halved its match against Anthony Wall of England and Paul McGinley of Ireland to give the Asian team half a point.

Results:
Darren Clarke of Northern Ireland and Englishman Lee Westwood beat S.K. Ho of South Korea and Toru Taniguchi of Japan 4 & 3

Johan Edfors and Henrik Stenson of Sweden beat Prom Meesawat of Thailand and Japan's Tetsuji Hiratsuka 6 & 5

Niclas Fasth and Robert Karlsson of Sweden beat Thailand's Thongchai Jaidee and Thaworn Wiratchant 3 & 1

Jeev Milkha Singh of India and South Korea's Yong-eun Yang all square with Anthony Wall of England and Paul McGinley of Ireland

Yes Bhushan, European team destroyed Asian team with one sided dominating victory on first day ... Hopefully they will recover to produce some fight in remaining 2 days.

Got a point today of the 4 available.
Jeev again gets a half......
Now Asia needs to win 7 out of 8 singles. No chance but hope they do well and make the margin a bit better.

And Asian Tour champion Jeev Milkha Singh sounded a note of defiance as he insisted Asia will close the gap on their all-powerful opponents.

Singh has already shown Asian players can compete abroad by beating the finest players on the European Tour to win the showpiece Volvo Masters event in Spain.

He said: "We have to play more on the world stage to get more experience. Asian players are good enough to win anywhere in the world.

"We need to get out there and gain experience by rubbing shoulders with the best players in the world. The Asian players are great fighters, and they will come through.

The Asian team lost badly to the European golfers in the Royal Cup, and to make it worse, Jeev Milkha Singh lost to Robert Karlsson.  :damn:

From today the Royal Trophy is starting at Amata Spring Country Club, Thailand.

This tournament's format is like Ryder Cup Style Team Competition, ie

Friday - Foursomes (x 4)
Saturday - Four-ball (x 4)
Sunday - Singles (x 8)

The Royal Trophy is started from 2006 inbetween Europe and Asia ... Europe is champion in first 2 the Royal Trophy challenge ... In 2006 Europe defeated Asia 9-7 and in 2007 Europe humilated Asia 12.5 - 3.5.

So this year all r hoping Asia put creditable performance against formidable Europe.

Sad to see that none of the Indian players are representing Asia in this year's Royal Trophy. Particularly unfortunate, because Asia is in the lead after Day, 3-1. Jeev would have been a shoo-in for the side had he chosen to play.
