Fabulous wire to wire victory by Gaganjeet.
He has potential to play the PGA or EPGA tour and hope to see him play there ASAP.
Great credit to him for hanging on to the lead for 4 consecutive days.
Now needs to do well in the forthcoming big events on the Asian Tour.

Great victory!!! Congratulations. This was the 4th title for Bhullar in Asian tour and for the first time he won two Asian title in the same year.

Can he better it with another victory this week in HERO Indian Open. He is in his best form and this will be a much bigger tournament - $1.25 million. By the way, this is the first time Asian tour moves to Bengaluru.

Bhullar is very well in contention for Order of Merit title this year. The order of merit race will heat up now with some big tournaments coming up. Currently Bhullar is placed 5th with around $140K behind. A victory in Bengaluru will straight away make him the Order of Merit leader.

Code: Select all

  1. Marcus FRASER (AUS) $481,394.61
  2. Jbe KRUGER (RSA)	$453,588.59
  3. Masanori KOBAYASHI (JPN)	$400,289.75
  4. Thaworn WIRATCHANT (THA) $348,906.51
  5. Gaganjeet BHULLAR (IND)	$342,712.81
Gaganjeet Bhullar also moves to World ranking of 120 this week. He is on the verge breaking top 100 and a top 3 performance this week can take him there. Note that his best ranking ever has been 115 back in February 2010. 2011 was not good for him except for Gujarat Kensville Challenger title (European challenger tour). But 2012 is going great with 7 top 10 finishes including two titles, two second place finishes and 1 3rd place finish. Go Bhullar!

Yesterday the thought of Bhullar winning the Order of merit crossed my mind as you can see in the above post. Today I see the even Bhullar was thinking the same. Here is an article on Gaganjeet Bhullar in asiantour.com.

BHULLAR SETS SIGHTS ON MERIT CHALLENGE
Bhullar’s victory at last weekend’s Venetian Macau Open showed that his march towards the top is well on track.

With his idol, Singh winning the Order of Merit title twice in 2006 and 2008, Bhullar does not have to look far as he strives to become Asia’s best player this season.

“Jeev has set targets for us. I would say we need to work really hard. The two wins, multiple category right now, winning the Order of Merit would be nice,” said Bhullar, , who moved to fifth place on the Order of Merit after earning US$118,875 from his fourth Asian Tour victory in Macau.

“There’re a lot of big weeks coming up. Singapore, Hong Kong, Johor and the Indian Open, Obviously, it’s not that far (from his position on the Order of Merit) and a few good weeks can jump my ranking to number one,” added Bhullar

While Singh still leads the title count, Bhullar believes that the gap will be narrowed in time to come.

“Obviously what Jeev has done, he has won about 13 international titles and I’ve only won four. The number is increasing. Jeev is our idol and one day we’ll try to catch up,” said Bhullar.

The Indian is confident that he can take over the mantle and continue to put India on the world map when his illustrious compatriots decide to call time on their career.

“I guess the next responsibility of Indian golf is on our shoulders, including Himmat Rai and Anirban Lahiri. We are the future of Indian golf. We have to prove to the people that the next generation is ready to take over,” said Bhullar.

The fifth major for Indians, the Hero Indian Open, the national championship has already started in Bengaluru. The first ever Asian tour event has attracted at least 40 previous winners. Some players to watch are:

Gaganjeet Bhullar - The hottest player in the Asian tour at this time, one of the two multiple Asian tour winner this year. The second best ranked India at 120, next only to Jeev (rank 91) is on the verge of breaking into top 100.

Peter Hanson - The Ryder cup star from Sweden and the highest ranked player (25) in the field

Thaworn Wiratchant: The most decorated Asian tour player from Thailand looking for record 15th win. The second multiple winner on the Asian tour this year beside Bhullar

Anirban Lahiri - The local lad playing in his backyard played all four round in the Open Championship and finished very respective T31. I don't remember if any other Indian player made the cut in his very first Open.

Himmat Rai: Completes the nexus of the trio Bhullar Himmat Lahiri, who are ready to take the baton of Indian golf from the trio of Jeev Arjun and Jyoti.

Muniyappa: Tje ;ast Indian to win Indian open back in 2009

Jyoti Randhawa: The old horse of Indian golf looking to reignite his career. You can never write him off in an Indian event.
