2010 asian tour: ASIAN TOUR INTERNATIONAL

Post by ajay »

Here are the first round scores from Bangkok. Only Gagan and Rahil have done well.

24 Gaganjeet BHULLAR 71 -1 (71)
38 Rahil GANGJEE 72 E (72)*
123 Himmat RAI 77 5 (77)*
128 C. MUNIYAPPA 78 6 (78)
137 Gaurav GHEI 81 9 (81)

Then there is Kunal and I'm not sure what is his nationality. At one place he is shown to be Indian and other place British. He has made it to Asian tour from the qualifying tournament. I guess he must be Australian. Anyway, he has done well in 1st round.

12 Kunal BHASIN 70 -2 (70)*

OK. Just did Google and confirmed that he has Australian citizenship, but he had been living and playing in India for a while. Last year he was playing PGTI (Indian tour) and even won his first professional tournament.

After 3 consistent rounds of 1 under 71, Gagan has spetacularly come alive in the 4th round. He is 7 under for the day after 15 holes and just took the sole lead at -10 by a stroke with a birdie on 15th.

Very impressive effort! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: He is the sole Indian who made the cut but he ensured everyone take note of India.
Go Gagan! Make a winning start to 2010!

Update: Gagan got a par on 16th.

Gagan got into the top gear when he made an eagle on par 5 2nd hole. Then from 5th to 7th he got 3 straight birdies and finished the front 9 with another birdie to go to -6 for the day. On Back nine, he managed a birdie only on 15th hole. Now two holes to go, for Gagan, the current players in contention are"

1 9 Gaganjeet BHULLAR 71 71 71 -7 -10 16
2 5 Tetsuji HIRATSUKA 71 72 68 -4 -9 14
2 1 Kiradech APHIBARNRAT 68 70 69 E -9 13
4 2 HWANG Inn-choon 72 70 67 -1 -8 13
5 5 Jbe KRUGER 70 72 69 -2 -7 14
5 3 David JOHNSON 71 70 69 -1 -7 13

With two birdies in a row on 14th and 15th, HWANG Inn-choon has caught up with Gagan at -10. Gagan got a par on 17th. He is now playing par 5 18th. i hope he nail it and get a birdie here. Hwang still has 3 more holes to get ahead of Gagan. Thai Kiradech got a par on 15th. He remains 1 stroke behind with three holes to go. While Tetsuji made a bogey on 15th and a par on 16th to fall two strokes behind and probably out of contention.

No updates for last 20 minutes :(

Finally an update. Yes Gagan scores birdie on 18th and takes the sole lead once again at -11. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: This effectively seals the victory as other two contenders have faltered. Hwang bogeys the 17th (after a par on 16th) to go back yo -9. While Kiradech also faltered with a double bogey on 16th and managed a par on 17th.

Well, Hwang now needs an eagle on 18th to make it a playoff with Gagan. That will be just too ambitious. Now waiting for them to finish.

Yessss!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Like Gagan, Hwang birdies the 18th, but the bogey on 17th proved to be too costly.

Round 4 Leaderboard
1. Gaganjeet BHULLAR -11 (277)
2. HWANG Inn-choon -10 (278)
3. Tetsuji HIRATSUKA -9 (279)
4. Kiradech APHIBARNRAT -8 (280)
4. Jbe KRUGER -8 (280)

Gaganjeet Bhullar is the WINNERRRRRRRRRR!!!!! woohoo woohoo :notworthy: :notworthy: woohoo woohoo

So Gagan has become a repeat winner in Asian tour. Hopefully, soon he'll win on European tour too. Next week European tour will be stopping in India and it may be a good chance for lot of Indians.

Simply great stuff from young Bhullar ... 21 yrs old Gaganjeet Bhullar produced a course record of eight-under par 64 to win the season-opening Asian Tour International by one stroke ... Gaganjeet started the final round six strokes behind the leader ... He had an eagle and six birdies for an unblemished card on final day.

What an absolutely stunning final round from Gaganjeet Bhullar  :notworthy: :notworthy:

The 21-year-old Gaganjeet could well be India's answer to Tiger Woods. The utterly brilliant final round yesterday suggests he has nerves of steel too -- apart from amazing golfing skills. I know it is premature to start anointing him the new Tiger (or even the Asian Tiger :D ), but this young man is well on the way to being a top-flight golf pro.
