2008 JAPAN TOUR - Season-ending Nippon Series JT Cup

Post by Prem »

Jeev is playing in Japan this week and should be there for next couple of weeks as well as he is not eligible to play the WGC event & USPGA.
He has started off well as he normally does in Japan.
5 birdies, no bogeys and tied for 5th after day 1.
The big question is "Can he win and move into that elite top 50 in world rankings"
He needs some good points to move back into top 50, where he truly belongs.

Ordinary day continues for indian golfers as Jeev had a subpar 2 over round of 74 and is currently 5 strokes off the lead and T24. He had three bogeys and one bird.

Jeev just made a bogey (as soon as I started following) on 12th hole to fall back to -10 and Joint 2nd place. :(

Just now I was typing the post that Jeev has a share of lead, but I lost the network connection and I couldn't post the mail. And now he is in 2nd spot. Any way, 6 holes to go and he has a great chance. The current scores are:

1 -11 Sushi ISHIGAKI 0 11 69 67 69 - 205
2 -10 David SMAIL -4 13 72 70 68 - 210
-10 Jeev Milkha SINGH -3 12 67 74 68 - 209
4 -9 Akio SADAKATA -3 14 70 69 71 - 210
-9 Dinesh CHAND -1 11 70 69 69 - 208

These are the 5 players who are fighting it out and have a chance.

Go Jeev!!

Update:  Well the leader Sushi ISHIGAKI(-10) also bogeyed the 12th, while Jeev(-10) and Smail(-10) got pars on 13th and 14th. So now there is a tie between three players for the lead at -11.

Update: Sushi ISHIGAKI(-11) takes the lead once again with a birdie on 13th. The live scoring would stop soon and we won't know how it goes to the end for several hours :(

Update: Now Smail drops a stroke on 15th to leave Jeev alone on 2nd spot, while Jeev pars the 14th. Current scores:
1 -11 Sushi ISHIGAKI 0 13 69 67 69 - 205
2 -10 Jeev Milkha SINGH -3 14 67 74 68 - 209
3 -9 Akio SADAKATA -3 16 70 69 71 - 210
-9 David SMAIL -3 15 72 70 68 - 210
7 -8 Dinesh CHAND 0 13 70 69 69 - 208

Sushi ISHIGAKI and Jeev both biride the 14th and 15th hloe.  So Jeev(-11) and Ishigaki(-12) maintain there positions

Update: Yeeehhh!!!!!  woohoo Jeev(-12) catches up with Ishigaki with a birdie on 15th! Jeev and Ishigaki have taken a lead of 3 strokes over their nearest rival - making it a two horse race.

1 -12 Jeev Milkha SINGH -5 16 67 74 68 - 209
-12 Sushi ISHIGAKI -1 15 69 67 69 - 205
3 -9 Ryo ISHIKAWA -5 FIN 72 70 70 67 279
-9 Taigen TSUMAGARI -4 FIN 71 72 68 68 279
-9 Akio SADAKATA -3 FIN 70 69 71 69 279
-9 David SMAIL -3 17 72 70 68 - 210

Update: Ishigaki pars the 16th. Two holes to go for both Jeev and Ishigake. Jeev is playing one group ahead of Ishigaki.

Update: Jeev pars the 14th. Here is the time to hold your nerves. Fortunately, Jeev is quite strong in that. JEev is now on par 5 18th hole. A birdie here will put lot of pressure on Ishigaki. But Ishigaki is still playing on 17th and if he birdies 17th, Jeev will be under pressure. Lets see how it goes.

T1 -12 Jeev Milkha SINGH -5 17 67 74 68 - 209
T1 -12 Sushi ISHIGAKI -1 16 69 67 69 - 205
Jeev has birdies the par 5 in 1st round, played at par in 2nd round, bogeyed it yesterday in 3rd round, and now we NEED a biedie. Go Jeev!!

While I'm still waiting for next live score update, I'm glad Japan golf site has stopped the practice of not updating the scores for the last few holes on the final day

Update: OK! After a long wait, Ishigaki pars the 17th. What a relief. So it is now the final hole. Its a par 5 hole and a birdie will put Jeev in a safe position. Go Jeev!!

Update: Yesssssssssssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jeev gets a birdie.  :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
So he did his part and now we wait for Ishigaki. Ishigaki needs a birdie to get into playoff with Jeev, eagle for out right win and anything else to give te victory to Jeev! Go Jeev!!!!!!!!!

1 -13 Jeev Milkha SINGH -6 FIN 67 74 68 66 275
2 -12 Sushi ISHIGAKI -1 17 69 67 69 - 205

Jeec Wins!!!

Post by ajay »

woohoo  woohoo woohoo
YESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JEEEEEEEV WINSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
His second victory of the year!!!!!!
:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Ishigaki crumbles under the pressure and bogeys the 18th. So Jeev(-13) wins by two strokes ocer Ishigaki(-11) while the 3rd spot is shared by three players at -9.

Dinesh Singh finished 9th.

This is Jeevs 2nd victory in 2008. After winning 4 times in a  dream year of 2006, Jeev could not do much in 2007. But now in 2008 he is back in similar form and he has two wins. In Japan he wins for the 3rd time in his career.  This year's performance proves that 2006 was no fluke. He missed winning quite a few tournaments in this year as he had to settle down for 2nd place. But he still has a chance to repeat the 2006 (or hopefully do it better) Go Jeev!!!

CONGRATULATIONS JEEV !!! woohoo
Well done.
Afetr round 2 when he slipped from 4th to 24th, I thought the long trip from UK to Japan would be futile.
But, Jeev played superb golf in last 2 rounds to WIN  :notworthy: woohoo
Thanks Ajay for the detailed commentary.
This will push his ranking to around 65.
Unfortunately this event does not give many points and so for breaking into top 50 Jeev needs another win...
