Re: 2008 Asian Tour
The next two weeks are big for the Asian Order of Merit (OOM) race as two big tournaments are being held at Singapore and Hongkong. The $5 million Barclays Singapore Open is a huge tournament followed by $2.5 million UBS Hongkong open. The importance of Singapore open can be judged by the fact that winner will earn a paycheck of $792,500, which is more than the current OOM leader's total Asian tour earning in 2008 of $750K.
This tournament is of great interst to Indians and quite a few of them are in contention for the OOM title. Jeev(currently 2nd), SSP Chowrasia(4th), Arjun Atwal(5th) are all in contention. Even Jyoti (13th) can get in contention if he wins or comes 2nd in this tournament. It would be intersting to follow the Indians and other top 4 non-Indians on the current OOM list, and see how the race for OOM shapes up. Here are the top players of interest:
1 Mark BROWN (NZL) $750,130.44 11
2 Jeev Milkha SINGH (IND) $613,106.69 8
3 LIANG Wen-chong (CHN) $448,428.24 11
4 S.S.P. CHOWRASIA (IND) $443,605.00 8
5 Arjun ATWAL (IND) $430,201.50 5
6 BAE Sang-moon (KOR) $409,545.18 13
7 LIN Wen-tang (TPE) $404,179.81 17
13 Jyoti RANDHAWA (IND) $260,043.74 8
The prizre money for top finishers in Singapore Open is as follows:
1 792,500.00
2 542,500.00
3 305,000.00
4 246,500.00
5 205,000.00
6 169,500.00
7 145,500.00
8 125,500.00
