The Asian tour kicks off with Pakistan Open. Last year, the Indians started with a bang as three Indians, including Jeev, joined the 6-way tie on the opening day, and another two Indians followed the leaders one shot behind.
Ultimatley Jeev and Johl finshed tied 2nd. That was probably the early signs for Jeev  what was to follow later in the year.

Like last year, we have a large contingent of Indians participating in Pakistan open. This year Jeev and Shiv are missing as they are playing in European tour. Amandeep Johl is looking forward to improve his last year result and finish at top. Similarly, after a good showing in 2006, S.S.P is also keen to start positively. Another top name from Indian side is Gaurav Ghei who won a tournament in Asian tour last year and had some good results. Rahil Gangjee and Ashok Kumar will also be a force, along with upcoming Chirag Kumar and teen ager Gaganjeet Bhullar.

In all, there are 21 Indians listed for Pakistan open. Here is the list:

Gaurav GHEI

Rahil GANGJEE
Amandeep JOHL
S.S.P. CHOWRASIA
Amardip MALIK
Arjun SINGH
Digvijay SINGH

Naman DAWAR
Vivek BHANDARI
Rahul GANAPATHY

Only 10 out of 21 Indians made the cut. The best round among Indians was by Ashok Kumar with 6 birdies in a blemish free round. Rahul Gangjee also had a blemish free round of 5 under par.  The highest ranked Indian Gaurav Ghei was a dissappointment as he missed the cut. He was done by a double bogey on 12th. Before 12th hole he had 5 birdies and 3 bogeys to be 2 under  and he was just under the cut line. But he never recoverd after the double bogey and missed the cut by 2.

The youngster got the taste of professional golf and some good experience. Overall, a mixed performance. At Asian level, probably our expectations have become too high and it is always a disappointment if an Indian dosen't win. The good thing is that we have these expectaions even without presence of top level of Inidan golfers (Jeev, Jyoti, Atwal, Shiv).
Three Indians in top 10, 6 Indians in top 15 is not a bad result except that I would have  liked to see one Indian in top 3.

Next week tounament is jointly hosted with European tour. So we will see only limted number of Indians. Seven Indians will be seen in action in Qatar. They are Jeev, Jyoti, Shiv Kapur, S.S.P., Ghei, Rahil and Amandeep Johl.

Except for Digvijay Singh and Gurbaaz Mann, poor day for India as rest of the players are outside the projected cut, which is presently at +2.

Good work by Digvijay, who is just 1 stroke behind the leaders (6 players tied for lead at -4). Gurbaaz Mann also did well as he is one stroke further down at -2.

Nice to see that 4 Indians making the cut. Yesterday it was looking bleak for all Indian players except Digvijay and Gurbaaz.

Digvijay leads Indian challenge at Philippines Open

Digvijay Singh kept the Indian challenge going at the US $300,000 Philippines Open, leading four Indians into the weekend action at the Wack Wack Golf and Country Club.

Digvijay, who is still looking for his maiden win on the Asian Tour, shot three birdies and as many bogeys to card an even par 72 that pegged him at tied seventh at three-under 141.

He was four behind midway leader Liang Wen-Chong of China (69), who took another step towards his maiden title.

Only four of the nine Indians in the field made the cut. Apart from Digvijay, Uttam Singh Mundy (70) and Gurbaaz Mann (75), both at one-over and tied 36th, and Arjun Singh (75) at 65th place and right on cut line at five-over, made it to the weekend
Digvijay, seventh overnight after first day, dropped a bogey right at the finish to come back with an even par 72 on the second day and was three-under. He stayed in seventh place after 36 holes, where he was after yesterday's round.

He shot a 69 in first round, had two bogeys and one birdie on his first nine holes after starting on the 10th. But back-to-back birdies on third and fourth brought him under par. Then a bogey on his closing hole pulled him back.

Uttam Singh Mundy bounced back from his 75 on first day as he shot a 70. He had two birdies on either side of the turn, and two bogeys, both on the front nine as he returned a card of 70 and is now one-over for two days.

Gurbaaz Mann made a small recovery on the back nine after a disastrous start. He opened with a triple bogey on 10th and a bogey on 11th. He had another bogey on 18th to turn in five-over. But two birdies on third and eighth improved his position and he ended at 75 to be one-over for the tournament. He slipped from overnight 12th to 36th.

At Philippine Open - Third Round

4 Gurbaaz MANN 70 75 68 -3
T10 Digvijay SINGH 69 72 75 PAR
T47 Uttam Singh MUNDY 75 70 76 +5
T63 Arjun SINGH 75 74 75 +8

Today course was playing tough and in that Gurbaaz managed to score superb round of 4 under which helped him to move inside top 5 with 3 under score ... Despite scoring 3 over round Arjun managed to hold his position inside top 10.
