Re: 2006 AsianTour: Hero Honda Indian Open
Its long list this time, so I m not following them this week ..
Interesting to see performance of Jyoti, Shiv, Caurav and Rahil ... But I m more interested in good performance by Chowrasia.

Re: 2006 AsianTour: Hero Honda Indian Open
Here are the day one performances. First round is not over yet and it will be completed tomorrow. Vijay Kumar is the clubhous leader on day 1 as he is tied with Simon Dunn at -6. . Jyoti Randhawa(-3) has kept his hopes alive for a win but Shiv Kapur looks to be in trouble as the projected cut is +1. Shiv will need to do better to make the cut in second round. Chowrasia(-3) did well too to finish high up in the leaderboard.

Re: 2006 AsianTour: Hero Honda Indian Open
From 67 Indians in the field, 26 of them move on to play during the weekend. Sad to see Ashok Kumar missing the cut. Both S.S.P. and Rahil Gangjee made a good move up the leaderboard. Vijay Kumar also did good survive at the top of the leaderboard for second consecutive day. Jyoti Ranhawa is lurking behind the leaders 2 stroke behind. It will be an interesting contest during the weekend.

Re: 2006 AsianTour: Hero Honda Indian Open
As the second round closes, Harmeet Kahlon also missed the cut with 2 bogeys in last two holes. So that leaves 25 Indians in the field of 70 players. Good thing about 2nd round is that there are 6 Indians in the top 10 and 11 Indians in top 20. After first round, we had only only 2 Indians in top 10 and 6 Indians in top 20.
Here are some quotes from S.S.P. from a report at Asian tour website

Here are some quotes from S.S.P. from a report at Asian tour website
Here are the final 25 players who are now playing the 3rd roundChowrasia, nicknamed "Chipputtsia", because of his magical short game nailed five birdies and an eagle.
A multiple winner of titles in India, he is a rookie on the Asian Tour this year and hit the headlines at the Mercuries Taiwan Masters in September where he led after the second round but was later disqualified for not signing his scorecard.
"I have got over the disappointment of the disqualification in Taipei. It is now something in the past. In fact I did not play in China last week just to take my mind off and it has helped a lot. I am more relaxed after having spent the week at home in Kolkata," said the Indian
His father was the green keeper at Royal Calcutta Golf Club and he was able to develop a brilliant short game as he lived next to one of the greens.
Chowrasia was five-under for the par-fives today helped by an eagle on the first. On the front nine, he had a dream run with three birdies between sixth and ninth.

Yes - but Vijay has already bowed out in the play offs and thus leaving Jyoti & SSPC to vie for honours on Monday morning.Kumar wrote: From the leaderboard, Looks like Jyoti, SSPC and Vijay kumar willbe battling out for the title in playoff...
Cant understand how th eorganisers have scheduled the last round for not to be able to finish the event on Sunday.
Surely they should have kept a cushion for play offs...
So an Indian victory to savour..........

Re: 2006 AsianTour: Hero Honda Indian Open
What a day for Indian golf!!!!!!!!!!!!
Indian golf seems to be heading in the right direction. Three players topping an international tournament. What else could one ask for from a tournament held in India. Future of Indian golf is rosy.
I really don't care who wins the tournament. Whether it is S.S.P or Jyoti. Both of them want this tournament desperately. Whether S.S.P wins it this time or not, he is a new revelation. He has been playing in Indian tour for quiet a while and occasionally in APGA, but this is new revelation in a sense that he proved to everyone that he can compete well at higher level too. In Taiwan, he was superb in two rounds and unfortunately he got disqualified. How he would have handled himself in the later two rounds, nobody knew. To his credit, he overcame that setback and hit back with more fire in his belly. So, even if he does not win tomorrow, he'll still come back strongly once again sooner or later.
And the other surprise result is the top 10 finish by amateur Chiragh Kumar. I am hoping that he is an upcoming young talent. Hopefully we will here more about him in future.
Read here the detailed report on the dramatic play in the fourth round, which will only conclude on the 5th day after a playoff between Jyoti Randhawa and S.S.P. Chowrasia (Vijay Kumar is already out in the first playoff hole).

Read here the detailed report on the dramatic play in the fourth round, which will only conclude on the 5th day after a playoff between Jyoti Randhawa and S.S.P. Chowrasia (Vijay Kumar is already out in the first playoff hole).
Here is another report, by our forum member V Krishnaswamy. As Vijay waited in clubhouse, the final group approached the par-3 17th, where Randhawa managed only a par with his 20-foot birdie putt stopping two inches short.
But, the smiling Chowrasia holed his 15-footer for birdie, his third in a row, to join Vijay in lead at 18-under.
Chowrasia had the honour of teeing off first on the 18th and his drive seemed headed left into the jungle which had devoured many an ambition this week.
That's when Chowrasia was aided by divine intervention as the shot hit a tree branch and bounced back into the first cut on the fairway. He laid up the second shot and reached the green in three to set up a 15-footer that would have given him the title.
Randhawa went for broke with a huge monster of a drive and his second shot went just over the green leaving him a chip from the edge for an eagle to give him sole lead. He made a brilliant attempt only to see it miss by less than a foot and he tapped in for a birdie to draw alevel at 18-under and set up a three-way tie.
Chowrasia had a 15-foot putt to win, but he pulled it ever so slightly and managed only a par to force a three-way play between the Indians, who had held centre-stage the entire week.

Re: 2006 AsianTour: Hero Honda Indian Open, Jyoti, S.S.P. & Vijay Kumar on top!
WOW ... What a performance by Indians ... I will be happy if Jyoti wins, but will be more happy if SSP wins the title ...
But with this top 3 finish SSP almost capture APGA 2007 season card ... Well done SSP.
