Re: 2006 AsianTour: Hero Honda Indian Open, Jyoti, S.S.P. & Vijay Kumar on top!

Last year Shiv Kapur and Jyoti finished 1 & 2 in the final Asian event. In Delhi event, we have three players and all Indians topping the leaderboard. A rare event and a first of a kind for Indians. This is worthy of a headlines. Can someone write a report for our Golf News section.

Fabulous performance by the Indians all over the leaderboard.  SSP Chowrasia now appears to be the next Indian player who will rapidly move up the rankings and onto the bigger tours (Japan, Europe, PGA etc.)

PS-A couple of years ago on a discussion in reply to comments by someone that Michelle Wie belonged on the PGA tour, I had commented that SSP Chowrasia (as a random example of someone on the Indian tour) was probably better than Michelle Wie.  At his time, I think we can conclusively say that SSP Chowrasia is a lot better than Michelle  :D

Guys remember Andrew Buckle??? Last year Shiv piped him out by $20K for Rookie of the year title on APGA tour after winning 2005 Volvo Masters of Asia.

This year Andrew Buckle trying his luck on APGA and Nationwide Tour … And with consistent performance on Nationwide Tour he is currently ranked on 18th place on '2006 Nationwide Tour Money Leaders' and on verge of grabbing PGA Tour card (top 20 money-winners on the Nationwide Tour also receive privileges on the following year's PGA Tour) , at same time he is holding 4th place on 'Asian Tour 2006 UBS Order of Merit'.

We weren't alone finding odd that Jeev or Jyoti wasn't in top 10 on the leaderboard after first round, but Jeev also thought same ways ... Today he fired six under to moved inside top 5 and gave wonderful present to himself on his 35th birthday ... Happy Birthday Jeev!!!

Jeev scored 8 birdies and 2 bogeys in his superb round ... Today SSP scored 4 birdies and 2 bogeys, which helped him to moved inside top 10 ... Shiv scored 4 birdies and a bogey in his round ... And Jyoti scored 5 birdies and 2 bogeys, with that both moved inside top 15 on the leaderboard ... Amandeep was inside top 15 after first round but today he managed 5 over with 5 bogeys ... Gaurav also had bad day he scored 5 bogeys and a birdie .. After yesterday's bad perfromance today Rahil managed steady even round with 2 birdies and 2 bogeys.

Its looks much more normal now with Jeev's name in top 5. But it is still not fully normal as we are really used to see him on the top. Hopefully, he'll grab his normal top  position by tomorrow and then just leave the field way behind on the last day :D

And Happpy Birthday Jeev!!

This is again a very creditable effor from SSP as he gets into top 10 with two steady rounds. Go SSP!

Thai players are dominating as the first eight names on the leaderboard have 5 Thai players. But this is because Jyoti and Shiv are still not at their usual positions. C'mon Jyoti and Shiv, get some more tricolor up and bring down the dominance of Thai flags on the top.

Excellent stuff from Jeev on his birthday, and it's good to see him back closer to where he belongs these days (the top of the leaderboard). I hope he sustains today's form on the weekend -- because that will give him the title!

Today Indians had tough day only SSP and Amandeep managed to score 1 under round ... Jeev managed PAR round and other scored over par rounds ... So with this PAR round Jeev is outside top 5 positions and SSP also moved out of top 10.

Jeev had 4 birdies and 4 bogeys in his round ... SSP had 4 birdies and 3 bogeys in his third round ... Jyoti scored 2 birdies and 3 bogeys ... Shiv managed 3 birdies, 3 bogeys and 6th hole double bogey ... Amandeep scored 6 birdies and 5 bogeys ... Gaurav had 4 birdies and 5 bogeys in his round ... Rahil was 1 under with 3 birdies and 2 bogeys until last hole, but a double bogey on 18th hole let him down.

Volvo Masters of Asia, Bangkok, Thailand - Third Round

T6 Jeev Milkha SINGH 72 66 72 -6
T12 S.S.P. CHOWRASIA 70 70 71 -5
T22 Jyoti RANDHAWA 72 69 73 -2
T25 Shiv KAPUR 72 69 74 -1
T36 Amandeep JOHL 70 77 72 +2
T51 Gaurav GHEI 73 76 73 +6
55 Rahil GANGJEE 79 72 73 +8

Golfers are finding it tough to play on the course in the fourth round and most of the golfers who started their rounds early have shot over-par scores.  If the course continues to play tough then Jeev Milkha Singh will have trouble catching up Thongchai Jaidee.  Can the Indian star make up 5 strokes on Sunday?

I think a tough course gives Jeev a much better chance to catch Jaidee, as jaidee could come back to the field and a 2 under 70 could propel Jeev to first place..

There is now a three way tie for first place, but not one of the players at the top of the leaderboard is an Indian.  Frankie Minoza has joined Thongchai and Wirachant at -11, and Chowrasia is in sixth place, Jeev in ninth place and Randhawa in sixteenth place.  Jeev has six holes left to play and has to make up 5 strokes.  Can a miracle occur on the golf course?

Jeev has had a brilliant year, but this one looks as if it has eluded him. It doesn't detract at all from his brilliant -- and incredibly busy -- year.

On a day when only seven of the 61 golfers could card a below-par round, Jeev Milkha Singh was not amongst one of them and an even par was not enough to catch third round leader Thongchai Jaidee.  The Thai golfer started with three birdies in the first four holes and appeared to be in total command, but he lost three strokes on the next two holes.  A couple of birdies on the back nine saved him from a total disaster as he limped home with a double bogey on the last hole and a one-hole victory over Frankie Minoza.  Jeev Milkha Singh finished tied for sixth place, SSP Chowrasia was tenth and Jyoti Randhawa moved up seven places to fifteenth. Defending champion had a disastrous last round and a five-over par 77 dropped him to 36th place.  Amandeep Johl, Gaurav Ghei and Rahil Gangjee finished 42nd, 49th and 57th respectively.
