Asian Q-School and cards
About 13-15 Indian pros will try for one of the 40 cards that will be available for 2005 season.
There were 80 qualifiers from Stage One who are joined by 127 exempted players in this week's Finals at Palm Resort where they will battle for 40 Asian Tour cards for the 2005 season.
Some of the Indians in the field are:
Ashok Kumar
Shiv Kapur
Gurbaaz Mann
Digvijay Singh
Arjun Singh
Amritinder Singh
Feroze Ali
Rahul Ganapathy
Ranjit Singh
Uttam Singh Mundy
Vivek Bhandari
Amit Dube
INDIANS WHO ALREADY HAVE 2005 ASIAN TOUR CARDS:
Jyoti Randhawa (will divide time between Japan and big events in Asia)
Arjun Atwal (but unlikely to play in Asia this year except for an odd event)
Amandeep Johl
Rahil Gangjee
Harmeet Kahlon
Jeev Milkha SIngh (will divide time between Japan and big events in Asia)
Gaurav Ghei
Indians on US
Daniel Chopra
Arjun Atwal (conditional with about 18 starts)
Indians on Europe
Arjun Atwal (by virtue of his 2003 win, but will play mostly in US)
Indians will however figure in a lot of joint-sanctioned events between Asia and Europe. A win in one of them ensures a full card on both Tours.

Re: Asian Q-School and cards
Gaganjeet Bhullar and Chiragh Kumar won the silver medal at the Asian Games just the other day and on Wednesday (today) they will tee off in Thailand in the Asian Tour final qualifier. Bhullar is 18 years old and Kumar is 22 and both plan to turn professionals after the Asian Tour qualifier.
Good luck.

Re: Asian Q-School and cards
Chiragh Kumar also had a good tournament when he played Hero Honda Cup at Delhi. He was playing as an amateur and finished T10. With a good display at Asiad he has shown that his earlier performance was no flash in the pan. I'm looking forward to see how he does after he turns pro.
First day belongs to Ashok Kumar has he jointly leads the field with Australian Troy Kennedy.
Here are the first round results. Top 40 will get the 2007 card.

Re: Asian Q-School and cards
Any idea why professional golfers are not allowed to participate in Asiad when professional tennis players are allowed ?
Would India's chances of medals been better if pro players were allowed ?

Not a good day for indians. with Ashok kumar and Amardip faltering to drop further.. Ashok really needs to pull up his socks or is in danger of missing the bus..

Re: Asian Q-School and cards
I agree with Kumar. Kumar (Ashok) need to really pull up his shocka
Ashok Kumar started on top but since then he has been sliding. He urgently needs to focus and stop this slide as he dosen't have much leeway to allow any further slipping. After two sub par round, Amardip Malik also faltered a little in the 3rd round. If he plays one more steady round without going over par, he should be in.
I'm pleased with Gaganjeet Bhullar. Afer a medal winning effort in Asiad, he is on the verge of another milestone. He is just 18 and decided to turn pro. He has played very well so far and given himself an opportunity. Being a teenager, he has nothing to loose and nothing to fear. Note that he won 6 out of 7 amateur events in India recently. He knows how to win, i.e. how to handle the pressure when stakes are high. So , if he keeps his focus, he could get a head start in his golf career. Go Gaganjeet!!!
22 year old Chiragh must be disappointed as he lost the plot in the last two rounds. After a bad second round, he needed a good solid round to raise any hope, but that did not happen.
The last four Indians, i.e. Firoz Ali, Rohit, Chiragh and Vivek Bhandari will need a super superhuman effort to go further from here.
Gurbazz Mann, Sujjan Singh and Vikrant Chopra also need to go really low tomorrow. I hope at least one out of these three will make it.
