What a run by Shiv Kapur. This must give him confidence to well against bigger players. He is becoming a real winner from a good prospect.

Yes, Shiv Kapur looks like the next Indian that will graduate onto the EPGA (or JPGA)or Nationwide) and then hopefully make it to the PGA Tour.

Asian Tour 05: Carlsberg Masters Vietnam

Post by ajay »

As the Asian tour winds down, players on the fringe are struggling to retain their playing privileges. To ensure the Asian tour 06 card, either the players must finish in top 60 of the merit list or win a tournament outright. Carlsberg Masters at Vietnam starts tomorrow and following Indians are lined up at the tee.

Code: Select all

Time	Tee Player
6:50 1 Kanwar SEKHON
7:10 1 Uttam Singh MUNDY
7:30 1 Harmeet KAHLON
8:00 1 Firoz ALI
8:10 1 Digvijay SINGH
7:40 10 Arjun SINGH
8:00 10 Vivek BHANDARI
11:30	1 Gurbaaz MANN
11:50	1 Mukesh KUMAR
11:20	10 Amandeep JOHL
No one of the above is yet guaranteed a card for 06. Amandeep Johl at 62nd rank in merit list is only two out and he can easily seal his card with a good performance here. Others probably need to win the event to ensure a card.

Note: As the Asian Tour thread is missing, I'm starting a new one. We'll later merge it once the old thread reappears

Not a good day for Indians. o one could go under par. The best Indian performance was Mukesh Kumar who had a par round with two birdies and a bogey. Mukesh is T20 and a stroke behind Harmeet Kahlon is T30.

Code: Select all

20 Mukesh KUMAR IND	72 E	-72
30 Harmeet KAHLON IND	73 1	-73
46 Amandeep JOHL IND	75 3	(75)*
46 Firoz ALI IND	75 3	-75
59 Gurbaaz MANN IND	76 4	-76

78 Vivek BHANDARI IND	78 6	(78)*
99 Kanwar SEKHON IND	87 15	-87
Danny Chia of Malaysia is the leader. Danny Chia was positioned 61st on the merit list, just one out for the 06 card. Note that this is the last tournament for many of the players. After that a couple of jointly sanctioned eith APGA tournaments are left where the entry is limited. At the top of the leaderboard the scores are:

1 Danny CHIA MAS 66 -6 -66
2 Chris RODGERS ENG 67 -5 (67)*
3 Alistair PRESNELL AUS 69 -3 (69)*

Second day was better as some of the Indians moved up. Firoz Ali was in some form as he made the biggest jump for Indians, moving up from T46 to T8 with a round of 4 under par. He had 8 birdies, a double bogey and two bogies. He is the only Indian to be unde par over all.

Six Indians made the cut with three of them in top 10.

Two Indians are in top 10 while two are just outside. I don't remember if Mukesh has done better at Asian tour earlier. He has dominated the domestic scene and this time he is also doing good at Asian level. Go Mukesh!!

If day 2 belongrf to Firoz Ali, the third day belonged to Vivek Bhandari as he jointly turned in the best performance of the day three. Firoz also did well to hang on to his 8th position.

Go Indians!!!

8 10 Mukesh KUMAR 72 73 72 +1 (217)
8 8 Firoz ALI 75 68 74 +1 (217)
11 10 Amandeep JOHL 75 70 73 +2 (218)
11 30 Vivek BHANDARI 78 71 69 +2 (218)*
37 49 Gurbaaz MANN 76 75 74 +9 (225)*
45 54 Digvijay SINGH 76 76 74 +10

2005 ASIAN TOUR: Volvo Masters of Asia

Post by ajay »

Asian 05 season is coming to close. This week we have USB HongKong Open and next week Volvo Masters of Asia where only those player will play who retain their card for 06.

Amandeep Johl, who is playing this week, has a last chance to make the grade for 06 as he is playing at HonKong. Amandeep is currently behind by a little more than $2000 from 60th rank. Fortunately, its a big money tournament and if he makes the cut and finish decently, he can bridge the gap easily.

Great day for Shiv..He carded a 6 under 66:-) to emerge as the joint leader alongside Andrew Buckle aftr the first round....Jyoti had a bit of an up and down round finishing at 2 under....

Gaurav and Harmeet's card was spoiled coz both of them had a triple bogey on a par 4 and a par 5 respectively......Lets hope Shiv can retain the top spot and jyoti make a move towards the top!

Again Shiv Kapur showed his class in first round of Volvo Masters of Asia ... I hope he continue his this good form next three days ... Today he carded 8 birdies and 2 bogeys ... He scored a bogey on 13th hole and then managed to scored 4 birdies in last 5 holes.

Jyoti had average day with 4 birdies and 2 bogey ... Gaurav Was moving nicely until 11th hole at that time he was 3 under for the day but on 12th hole he managed triple bogey and ended day with even round ... He had 5 birdies, 2 bogeys and a triple bogey ... Harmeet also followed on step of Gaurav ... He was 2 under until 16th hole but scored triple bogey on 17th hole and ended day with +1 ... He also scored 5 birdies, 3 bogeys and a triple bogey ... Jeev had bad day on course ... He carded 5 bogeys and 3 birdies in his round and ended on 2 over.

Go Shiv Kapur!!! Its only a first day but a good start always help. Hopefully he can take a new step in this tournament by winning it. He has been quite close few times to win a tournament but had heartbreaks.

Its a mixed day for Indians. Jyoti has a decent start as he is T13. He can very well get into contention with a good round on second day.

Ghei and Harmeet were really unlucky as their card was spoiled by just one hole. Hopefully they will make a strong comeback. Jeev also need a strong round to climb back on the leaderboard.

Go Indians!!!
