Point wise this was his 5th best points for a single event. I think the OWGR points for an event depend partly on the number of top golfers that participate and this event didn't have too many from the very top, so fewer points. Also, golf rankings are based on a minimum of 40 events over 2 years, so they likely change slower than tennis rankings.

I am not sure how his world ranking is so low outside top 300 ( I think just entered top 300 after this week). I have not really followed golf in depth and certainly not ranking. For those who do, what level these European tour events are compared to say Tennis. I suppose they are at least of lower level ATP tour events, much better than challengers. In that case based on those top 10- top 20 finished among 100-150 participants, would he not be moving up faster up the rankings ?
This event is one of the high profile events on the European Tour with total prize money of USD 8 million, more than the regular PGA Tour events. Kiradech Aphibarnrat, finished tied second and moved from 516 to 195 in world rankings!! Huge number of points for the top 5 guys.
Subhankar is ranked low due to his poor performance in whole of 2020 and 2021 (excluding last 6 weeks).
He was ranked 461 just 6 weeks ago. As the world ranking uses a divisor of 52 events for players playing 52 or more events in last 2 years, Subhankar rankings will move slower as he has played 61 events. He needs few more good weeks to make up for the bad 2 year spell. In 6 decent weeks, he has moved 166 places up…may the upward trend continue :goodluck:

Found this on European tour Twitter handle

That was astonishing by Shubhankar. But, can anyone be that precise from so far out or is just plain luck?

Nobody can guarantee that the ball or putt will drop from significant distance (i.e., he won't be able to repeat it if he hits another few shot right after from the same spot).

That said the better players have lesser dispersion in their shots (both distance and direction) and hence have a higher probability of a ball from distance dropping into the hole...

EUR 1,500,000 Open de España

Round 1 scores
:

T21 Shubhankar Sharma -4
T125 Gaganjeet Bhullar +4

Gaganjeet Bhullar recently became a dad and hence had to miss many tour events. There are 4 events left in the season and Gaganjeet needs to make most out of it to earn a playing card for next season.

Tremendous 2 rounds of golf by Shubhankar to be T3 and just a stroke behind world no. 1 Jon Rahm.
Just hoping that he keeps the same level in the next 2 rounds and finishes high.
A good finish will help him qualify for the prestigious DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.
