US PGA Tour 2017

Post by Prem »

This weeks CIMB Classic is the 2nd event on the new 2016-17 PGA Tour.
Today is day 3 and Anirban Lahiri leads the tournament by 3 strokes after 17 holes.
He is 6 under for the day after shooting 6 under on day 1 and day 2 for a total of 18 unde, with one hole to play.
First time probably for Anirban as leader of a PGA event going into the last day.
:goodluck: Anirban...for the final round tomorrow.

A disastrous quadruple bogey on par 5 3rd hole ruined the day for Anirban today. :damn:
He fought back well to get to level par after 16 holes to remain 2nd.
His playing partner Justin Thomas is unstoppable so far and is -7 for the day and leads by 3 shots.
Unless Justin messes up, Lahiri has lost a golden opportunity to win on the PGA Tour.
Fingers crossed for last 2 holes...

Even though it was a great opportunity lost, Anirban has started well on the PGA Tour.

A win would have secured his card for next two seasons on PGA tour, Asian order of Merit title, a top 50 ranking, entry to all majors etc....

However, he does move to 68 in World Rankings, 3rd in Asian OOM and makes a good start to PGA season. He is taking a week off and hope he plays soon to take advantage of his hot form.

This was definitely a very strong result for him. I expect him to do significantly better on the US courses this year, now that he is more familiar with them in his second year. Last year, he finished 117th on Fedex Points and barely retained his card (I think the top 125 retain their cards without any conditions), hopefully this year he will finish in the top 50 or even significantly higher.

Anirban has moved to T14 with a solid round of -5 in round 3.
He has nothing to lose and can go aggressive on Sunday and try and finish as high as possible.
He has one more PGA event next week before almost a 2 month break from the PGA Tour.
Go Anirban Go :goodluck:

Anirban finishes a solid T-28 at the PGA tour's OHL Classic at Mayakoba although he had a disappointing final round of +1. Missed an opportunity for a top-10 finish but overall his results this year appear to significantly better than last year on the PGA tour.

Arjun - This was only his first event on PGA event in US after the CIMB classic in Asia. So too early to conclude.
Last year he had the benefit of playing all four Majors and all the WGC events, which helped him finishing in top 125.
This year he has to do better to match that as he won't have the benefit which comes with being in Top 50 in the world.
However, he has the experience of playing PGA tour for last one year and that should be a big help.
Expect him to win an event on PGA tour this year....he was so close at CIMB classic but messed it up with couple of disastrous holes. :goodluck: Anirban
