So, none of the Indian players seems to be consistently standing out in the EPGA in recent weeks. Jeev T38 at the Irish Open (I think he has won one of the lead-up tournaments to the British Open in the past, likely the Scottish Open), Gaganjeet T33 at the BMW Open and Shiv T18 at the Open de France. A bit disappointing that just one of them seems to make the cut each week!

It has been a bad couple of years for Indian golf. None of our players have been consistent. Shiv and SSP should have consolidated on their gains but that hasn't happened though a few new names like Bhullar have emerged. I don't know what the issue is. Any ideas?

I don't think one can point to anything systemic in an individual sport like golf. We had no world-class pro golfers before Jeev (and the half-Indian Chopra) -- and he was soon followed by Arjun and Jyoti. All of them "made it" internationally when they were well into their 30s, and now age is probably catching up with the pioneering trio.

The next group of Indian golf pros -- Shiv Kapur, Gaganjeet Bhullar, Anirban Lahiri and SSP Chowrasia -- are all still below 30, so they are near "making it" (to the EPGA or PGA tours, and/or playing at the majors) at an earlier age. So I suppose we should give them a bit more time to mature and reach their full potential...

Shiv is 32, SSP is 36 and hence my worry is that they have not progressed after making it to the European Tour. They have not had the success that we saw with Jeev, Jyoti and Arjun. Bhullar and Lahiri are in their 20's and time is on their side.

Sad to see Jeev imploding on the final two days of the Scottish Open this year. Shiv is looking consistent, but needs a few top-10 results or better.

Good luck to Shiv Kapur. But we should follow this in the Majors thread, no?
