The 17th hole took a toll on Arjun as twice he sent the ball off the green into water :( Finally, 3rd time (fifth shot including 2 penalties) the ball stayed on the green 6' 2" from the hole and Arjun made it in single putt. So Arjun was +3 on this hole, +5 for the day of 8 holes, +2 for the tournament and that means Arjun will be fighting the rest of the day to make the cut.

Arjun must play the remaining 10 holes for 2 under to make the cut. Goodluck!

- Arjun immediately made some amends as he made a 15' putt to get the birdie on the 18th - his first for today. So he, including Vijay Singh, is T75 at +1. Once again goodluck!

- My goodluck worked again and Arjun made back to back birdie on par 4 1st with a birdie putt of 11'7" He is now T58 - just at borderline to make the cut. Once again goodluck!
However, Vijay Singh dropped a shot on par 5 2nd to go +2 and T89 (tied with Tiger Woods). So now he needs two birdies in 7 holes to make the cut and play tomorrow.

-Well Vijay got back the dropped shot immediately with a 16' birdie putt on par 3 3rd. Even Tiger made a birdie on par 3 8th too. So both of them are T75, one shot away from the cut. Arjun missed the 14' birdie putt on par 5 2nd to remain even par.

-Can Arjun make 12' birdie putt on par 3 3rd? Yes!!! He did! So Arjun has neutralized the horror +3 of hole 17th with 3 birdies in next 4 holes. He is now T44 and caught up with his partner Harrington at -1. Both of them are still +2 for the round.
Vijay bogeyed once again and he is back to +2 T91. Tiger made back to back birdies and he is even par at T58.

- Arjun once again has a 12' birdie putt on par 4 4th, but misses it this time. Vijay too got a par on 5th. But that's not good enough for him as he is left with 4 holes to make two birdies to make the cut.

-Sigh! Arjun saved the bogey with a solid 10' par putt on 5th. That was a narrow escape. Even Vijay saved a bogey with a 10' par putt. But with 3 holes left, it looks difficult that he'll make the cut.

- Tiger is on fire as he gets 4th birdie in a row. Vijay drops another stroke and is out with 3 over par and 2 holes to go. Arjun pars the 6th hole. While his partner Harrington made back to back 3 putt bogeys (missed under 4' putts twice) to go 1 over par T75 and in danger of missing cut.

- As it looked Arjun is making it safely with a cushion of one stroke, he puts the ball in water on par 4 7th. Can he escape this hole with a bogey? Looks tough. His 3rd shot goes to the bunker and I guess this will undermine his chance to make the cut :( . The 4th shot gets him to the green leaving him with a 52' bogey putt. His putt goes 9' over and he is staring a triple bogey. Arjun save a shot by making 9' putt, keeping the damage to a double bogey. This could be a life saver. This leaves him with two holes to get one birdie and make the cut. If he survives the difficult par 3 8th, par 5 9th will give a chance to make the birdie. So once again both partners are tied at +1, T75 and have two holes left to make amends and make the cut.

-Harrington goes first and overshoots his tee shot on par 3 8th and lands in the rear green side bunker. Arjun hits a wayward shot and lands in left green side bunker. Both will have a tough time to save the par. Great 28 yd bunker shot from Arjun to come to 8' of the hole. But he misses the par putt and that's another bogey :damn: . Even Harrington made the bogey. Looks like both partner are going hand in hand and both will miss the cut until someone makes an improbable eagle on last par 5 9th hole.

Unfortunately Arjun didn't carry on the form from round 1 and
Had a bad round to miss the cut. So he missed after being -5 and T3 after
first 17 holes of the tournament.
Tiger made the cut easily after a -4 in round 2 after being +2 after round 1.

HP Byron Nelson Championship - Atwal, Chopra, Vijay Singh

Post by ajay »

Arjun made a cut once again. His two rounds of 2 over (72) and 1 under (69) has place him at T53 which will change slightly as Round 3 is still going on. Daniel Chopra destroyed himself in the back 9 of the second round with 4 bogeys and a double bogey and still a hole left. He was comfortable -2 at the turn, +2 after 16th hole, but with a double bogey on par 3 17th, he is now +4. The cut lies at +2
Vijay Singh finished even par today and -2 for the tournament and T21 right now.

Arjun Atwal had an up and down tournament (two good rounds and two bad ones), finishing T56 after a decent 69 on the final day (which followed a poor 73 on day 3). Arjun is yet to find consistent form this year, unfortunately. Vijay Singh, though, is playing his best golf in 3-4 years, and finished T9 this week.

Daniel Chopra and Arjun Atwal are at the FedEx St. Jude Classic (on the US PGA tour). Both have made the cut -- Daniel comfortably, and Arjun barely. At the halfway mark, Daniel is T12 at 3-under par, while Arjun is T52 at 1-over (the cut was at 2-over). Arjun had a brilliant first round of 67 (which placed him T3 after Day 1), but then shot a 74 on the second day -- continuing a pattern of up and down golf that has plagued him right through 2012. Daniel shot 72 on day 1 (T64) and then a brilliant 65 on Day 2.

Contrasting fortunes for Arjun and Daniel on day 2!!!
Daniel moving from T64 to T12 and Arjun going the other way from T3 to T52!!!
It's very tight and another good round today can move them both into top of the table.
High time these 2 get some top 10 finishes, to retain their cards. :goodluck:

A superb final round of 66 (4-under) enabled Arjun to finish T19 (on 3-under par for the tournament), after he had shot an even-par 70 on Day 3. Nice overall tournament for Arjun, apart from that second round of 4-over par.

Daniel, on the other hand, went 1-over par on each of the final two days -- and slipped to T27 at the end of the tournament.

Given the recent form, its good result for both of them. Hopefully, they improve further and get some top 10 results soon. Good luck!

PS: Jeev Milkha Singh also had a good week as he finished T7 in the European event with some good rounds.

Good week overall for our players, after a long while.
They get a break due to US Open and hope they continue this form for next few weeks.

Arjun Atwal made the cut in this week's PGA tour event (won by Tiger Woods, for this 3rd title of the year, which took him past Jack Nicklaus for career titles), but that was all he achieved -- as he finished a poor T74. Vijay Singh finished T49; pretty forgettable tournament for Arjun.

Arjun Atwal and Daniel Chopra are playing at the Greenbrier Classic on the PGA tour this week.

But Fijian NRI Vijay Singh has taken the lead with a 7-under par round of 63 on Day 1. Daniel had a 1-under 69 and Arjun an even-par 70 in round 1. The projected cut is at par, so Arjun and Daniel need to play at least as well (preferably better) today.

Nice to see the veteran Vijay play well. He has struggled to sustain such form over 4 days in the past 2-3 years, after falling from his perch near the top of the global game (including more than a year as the #1 player in the world, ahead of Tiger).

Arjun made the cut with a 1-under 69 on the second day. But Daniel had a disastrous 74, and missed the cut. Vijay also had a 74 in the second round, and has subsided to T18 (from first at the end of the first day).

Poor play by both Vijay and (especially) Arjun over the weekend. Vijay had a 69 and 68, slipping to T33, while Arjun finished with a 75 on the final day -- and ended 76th (dead last) among those who made the cut. If it is any consolation, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson were among those who failed to make the cut...!

Both Arjun and Daniel failed to make the cut in the John Deere Classic on the PGA tour this week.
