2012 European Tour - Jeev and SSPC

Post by PKBasu »

Arjun Atwal is playing at the True South Classic on the PGA tour this week, and has made the cut. He lies T67 at 3-under par (where the cut was taken) at the halfway mark. Time to make a move up during the weekend.

Arjun finished T67 last week, after a poor final round of 73.

Both Daniel and Arjun are playing the PGA's Canadian Open this week.

:goodluck: to both as its high time they earn decent money to move into top 125.
If they can do it in next couple of events, they get to play the first of the 4 PGA play-off tournaments running from end August for 4 weeks.
Else, they have to wait for a month and try to get inside top 125 in the few remaining events to keep their card for 2013!!!

Some good chipping and putting by Arjun allowed him to post a decent first round score of 1 under par. Arjun started on back 9 and at the turn he was +1 with 2 bogeys and 1 birdie. After the bogey on his 8th hole (hole #17), Arjun played a steady golf waiting for his chances for a birdie. He finally got a chance to go even par on his 14th (Hole #5) when his 2nd shot from the rough landed 5ft 9in from the hole. But he missed the birdie putt. On next hole (his 15th) he was in trouble as his chip from the green side bunker fell 9ft short of hole on par 3 6th hole. But unlike previous hole, he got a great putt here to save the par. On par 4 7th hole hole his second shot landed in rough at the edge of the green at a distance of 11 yards. Arjun hit a great chip shot and it fell in to give him the illusive birdie and bring him back to par. On par 3 8th Arjun's tee shot once again failed to find the green and instead landed in the side bunker leaving him a 10 yard bunker shot. Guess what, Arjun nailed it from the bunker to move to -1. The last hole was uneventful par.

Arjun(-1) is T15 for now and he may end up in high 20s by the end of the day. The current leaders are at -5. Dan finished his round at +2 and he will need to play a great round tomorrow to make the cut. Vijay Singh is yet to start his round.

Vijay Singh starts his campaign in style. 4 birdies in first 6 holes. His playing partner Matt Kuchar does even better as he scored birdies in first five holes  . The third player in the group - Open winner Ernie Els' 1 under par just fades away. Remarkable that the trio already have 10 birdies and 8 pars in first 6 holes. However, things will change and bogeys will enter in their cards on 7th hole as Ernie and Kuchar are staring bogeys.

Yes bogeys by Ernie and Kuchar on 7th and a par by Vijay. At -4 Vijay is T6 after 7 holes. The lead is shared by 5 players at -5.
Vijay also gets his first over par hole with a double bogey on par 3 8th hole as he took 3 shots to reach the green and then missed a 5ft bogey putt.

Arjun has started in scorching style on Day 2, and is 3-under par after his first four holes today. He ended yesterday at T39 (1-under) but has now surged to T19.

Vijay is 4th on the leader board, having finished his round today with a 67 (after his 65 yesterday). .

Daniel is also making gains today. With a eagle on par 4 12th, where his 123 yard 2nd shot dropped in the hole, he came back to the parity. Another birdie on the 18th brought him inside the cut line. He is now on the front nine and needs to play it par or better to make the cut.

Update: With a birdie on 7th, Arjun is -5 and just 1 stroke outside top 10. He has another birdie chance on 9th with a 7 ft putt. Go Arjun!
Daniel came close to making another eagle when his 2nd shot of 154 yd landed just a feet away. Anyway, easy birdie on hole #3 takes Dan to -2 and T49.
Arjun missed the birdie. He is still -5 and T14 as he makes the turn into back nine.

Daniel had a superb round of 65 and comfortably made the cut. He is T39, Arjun is T26 and Vijay is T5 at the half way mark. Looking forward to the weekend.

In one of the continuing ironies of golf, last week's Open champion Ernie Els failed to make the cut this week at the Canadian Open!

It has been a poor start in London for India, but Arjun made a bright start as he birdies 2nd and 3rd hole to move to -7, just outside the top 10 i.e. T11

Dan has an uneventful start so far with 4 pars. He is T45. Vijay is yet to start.
Arjun missed a birdie putt from 6'5" on par 5 4th hole.

Dan dropped a shot on the par 3 16th with a wayward tee shot.

Very nice to see Arjun and Daniel hit their stride on Day 2 and 3 at the Canadian Open. Unfortunately, Vijay slipped up -- as he is wont to do too often these days, rarely sustaining his play after a round or two of excellent golf.

Not a good day for Dan and Arjun. Both had their worst round today. Especially Dan who went 4 over. Winner Scott Piercy scored -17, 10 strokes better than Arjun and 5 strokes better than Vijay Singh.
