2012 PGA Tour - Atwal, Chopra, Vijay Singh

Post by Prem »

The 2012 PGA Tour kickstarted last week with the Tournament of Champions, which
was won by Steve Stricker.

We have Arjun, Daniel and Vijay who have cards to play 2012. Arjun and Daniel need to make sure they win or finish in top 125 to retain playing priviledges for 2013.

Good luck to all as they tee off at this week's Sony Open in Hawaii. :goodluck:

Nope. you can't pick and choose such requirements. The 2 years exemption for winning a PGA tour title will expire at the end of this year.

Arjun Atwal and Daniel Chopra had a poor start to the season at the Sony Open last week, both failing to make the cut (Arjun was 1-over at the halfway mark, whereas the cut was at 1-under and Daniel was 2-over). Vijay Singh finished T41, but was involved in an unseemly spat with Rory Sabattini's caddy.

Arjun and Daniel have had a poor start to 2012 season.
Both have not yet made a CUT at any of the events so far.
Arjun has played 4 events in a row and has missed the cut in all 4. :-(
Daniel got to play 2 events where he didsnt fare any better ;)
This week both are in the field at Pebble Beach and with Arjun;s friend Tiger in the field, hope it brings luck to him.
:goodluck: guys as you need to finish in Top 125 to earn your cards for 2013.

After another 5 weeks, the above statement continues to be true!!!
Both Arjun and Dan are yet to make the cut in any events so far.
Arjun came close this week but missed by one shot.
Hope he is getting better and will deliver a top 10 soon..

After a long time Arjun is doing well. He is playing the second round of PGA Quail Hollow Club, Charlotte and just scored two birdies in a row to move to T7 with a score of -7 after 16 holes. So he is in contention albeit 5 behind the leaders (-12). C'mon Arjun!

Tiger Woods(E) is struggling at T84 after 14 holes and in danger of missing the cut. Vijay Singh is T32 with two holes remaining at -3. Arjun pars the next hole and now he is on his last hole which is par 4 9th (he got a bogie here in 1st round)

Arjun just finished his 2nd round with a par on final hole. Well done!
I hope he continues to have same form.
On last hole Vijay Singh made a triple bogey which followed a bogey on penultimate hole. So from a comfortable -3 he finished 1 over par and missed the cut.

Tiger missed a 4ft birdie putt on his penultimate hole and thus missed a golden opportunity to make the cut. Now he has one last chance on his last hole (par 4 9th) to make a birdie and the cut.
And Tiger also misses the cut.

Arjun scored 3 over in the third round but 3 under in the final round helped him to achieve this season's first top-25 finish.

At $6.5M Wells Fargo Championship, Charlotte, North Carolina

T21 Arjun Atwal 68 69 75 69 -7 $67,600.00

That is a good result considering the dearth of good results on PGA tour in 2012. This was the 2nd time this year when Arjun made the cut. But for the bad third round, he could have had a top 10 finish here. In the last round itself, if he could have avoided couple of bogeys (he had 4 of them, beside 2 eagles and 3 birdies), he would have had a top 10.

I think this will be a great confidence booster for Arjun and hopefully he'll soon get some more good results.

I hope Dan also make a comeback soon with some good results.

Nice to see Arjun finally regain a modicum of form. I hope this kick-starts his season (rather late, no doubt) and he begins to make it to the top-10 in some tournaments soon.

Arjun finally made his second cut this week and finished a credible T21, where his friend Tiger missed CUT.
But for the third round, he could have had a tmuch better ending.
So now Arjun has to get going if he has to finish in Top 125 in money list to retain his card for 2013.
He is currently 184th with $80k earnings.
Arjun plays the TPC this week and is paired with multiple major winners Harrington and Cabrera!!!
:goodluck: Arjun....

Arjun was having a great round of golf with 5 birdies and no drop shots until he double bogeyed the 18th!!!
He had even birdied the most famous par 3 17th at TPC Sawgrass...before finding water with his tee shot on 18th...
He was tied 2nd at the time and the double bogeyy slipped him back to T8 at the moment.

Still a great round
His playing partner Angel Cabrera had a 9 on par 3 17th....giving away 3 balls to the water gods!!!

The Players Championship

Post by ajay »

Arjun reached the 18th T3 at 5 under with 5 birdies. Another birdie and he would have tied with the leaders at that time. But one false stroke and resulting double bogey means he finished at -3 and T8 at that time. Very likely he'll be out of top 10 at the end of the day.

The prestigious Players Championship is unofficially called the fifth major. Its good to see Arjun entered this tournament with some form. I hope he willget a great result at the end of the tournament.

Interesting tidbit from his round.
On the famous par 3 17th, (where the green is an island) his partner Angel Cabrera put three balls in the water and by the time he got to the hole, he was already 6 over for just that hole , i.e. he took 9 strokes to complete the hole. In contrast Arjun's first stroke landed 4' away from the hole and he duly scored his birdie. (The third player Harrington made a par.) But looks like Cabrera's misery affected Arjun too as Arjun in his next tee shot on 18th put the ball in the water spoiling his otherwise perfect day.
