Indian Amateur and Young Golfers

Post by jaydeep »

Harmeet Kahlon left for Florida for a two week coaching under Jonathan Yarwood, who coaches golfer Michael Campbell.

Kahlon leaves for Florida
"The coaching with Yarwood will cover all aspects of the game, especially the swing, putting, chipping and bunker play," the 34-year-old Oil India employee said.
"With a view to improve upon my swing and putting, I have decided to train under Yarwood, who coaches reputed golfer Michael Campbell," Kahlon said adding "since my first visit to Yarwood in January my performance had greatly improved."

Indian Amateur and Young Golfers

Two amateur young golfers with connections to India have qualified to play at the Sectional Qualifier for the 2006 US Open Championship.

Ajeetesh Sandhu, Indian junior golf champion in 2005, finished fifth in the local qualifier in Florida. However, I am unable to see his name in the field of any of the 15 Sectional Qualifiers that will be played in Japan, UK and USA.

Sandhu received a full scholarship to play at the famous David Leadbetter golf academy in 2005 and has done well in some tournaments in USA. He won the International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) title at Sarasota’s Bent Tree Country Club on March 19, 2006.

Final round results of the IJGT @ Bent Tree Country Club conducted by the International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT): (partial result)

Bhavik Patel, a school student in Bakersfield, California, placed first at the local qualifying tournament in California and earned a place in the field of the Daly City Sectional Qualifier. The top four finishers will play at the 2006 US Open.

Does anyone know if Sam Bhimani is of Indian descent? He appears to have done well at the junior level with one title, one runners-up, two third place and one fourth place finishes in his last seven tournaments.

Meet some of the rising junior golfers in India: Gaganjeet Bhullar, Ajeetesh Sandhu, Viraat Badhwar and Amanjyot Singh.

Here is a quote from the link posted below, "Golf is now a deadly serious pursuit in India. Parents of young golfers are doing everything in their means-and at times, beyond-to shape a career in golf for their children. Renouncing their own social lives and even allowing their careers to stagnate is not unheard of."
