NISHA SADEKAR ON FUTURES TOUR -- INDIAN ORIGIN
I HAVE PUT THIS ON “INDIAN GOLFERS ON THE MOVE” THREAD ALSO. I tho’t lot of people might just follow Simi and would then get to know about Nisha Sadekar, who looks of Indian origin, judging by parents’ names. She is Canadian. Her sister, Seema also plays golf.
FUTURES TOUR – Bank of Ann Harbour
OK guys, here is something I found very interesting:
There is a young lady pro golfer called Nisha Sadekar, who is also lying tied 16th at the Bank of Ann Harbour tournament in Futures Golf.
The 23-year-old Nisha the is the daughter of Anil and Munni Sadekar and is from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Obviously parents of Indian origin. Nisha played at University of Missouri and is playing Future’s Tour this year.
Her younger sister, Seema Anil Sadekar (born June 19, 1985) also plays golf for UNLV (which I think if the University of Nevada, Las Vegas). She has been to Leadbetter Academy.
Smriti Mehra is tied for 16th place with 35-37 = 72.
The leaders are Hong Mei Yang (China), who recently became the first Chinese woman to win a pro golf tournament, and Nadine Ash (South Africa) with cards of 68 each.

It must be tough playing these futures -- they pay so little.
500 dollars for T22 seems meagre to me. In some cases, it won't
even cover airfare.

There is not much money in LPGA and the situation is worse in the Future's Tour. I agree that the money earned by the pgolfers in the Future's Tour barely pays for the expenses anf if you end up down on the leaderboard then the prize money does not even pay for the hotel room or travel expenses. These lady golfers are living a dream of some day making it into the LPGA.
The earnings of the golfers on the Future's Tour pales in comparison to what the tennis players make in the Futures tournament. The golfers make the money only if they make the cut unlike in the tennis tournaments where even the qualifiers get some prize money even if they do not make it into the main tournament.

simi mehra
I am really surprised to find this forum , i think this is awesome that you people discuss my sister and how she is doing . In our family we do not even try to put an article out in the paper as to how she is doing as the press in India is terrible. Teh only thing the press in India writes about is cricket and bollywood led by our crooked politicians. I think we our sick in this country and sports is never going to be the mainstay the Olympics are a good indication . We win one silver and we go crazy Zimbawe beats us pathetic. No infrastructure in our country to help our people develop and be sports people crooked associations and money down the drain so no use. Anyway Simi won the event last week just to keep you updated and arjun finished 13th and daniel 32 nd this week not bad . Let me know if you have any questions for my sister arjun atwal or daniel as we are all best of friends and grown up playing our golf together
bye

Welcome to the forum, fattymehra. There are several golf fans in the forum especially
Ajay, Bhushan and Kumar. Do not despair, there is a small but probably more
effective set of people in this forum who will support sporting endeavours that have
nothing to do with cricket.

WElcome Smriti's sister!
We are a bunch of die-hard Indian sports fans and are located all over the world. We are proud of our sports-stars, and this forum provides us with a chance to share the news about them.
It is not easy to become a world-class athlete growing up in India, and if your chosen sport is not cricket then you live in complete anonymity unless you win an Olympic medal.
I am happy that Joy and Kris Swamy are trying write articles in Indian newspapers and hope that the Indian public will one day become familiar with Indian golfers who are doing a superb job in the international arena.
Smriti has gone where no other Indian lady golfer has ever been - playing in the LPGA. I hope Indian girls use her as their role model and choose to follow in her path.

Welcome to the forum, fattymehra. Its nice to have people who are close to the players. There is no doubt about it that Smriti has done great. I'm curious whether you also play golf at any level? I'm also curious how many girls play golf in India. Do they get any support?
Smiriti must get some exposure so that the other girls playing in India have someone to look up to.
