T2 after round 1 of the Olympics competition. She was T1 until a bogey on the final (18th) hole. Excellent stuff from Aditi, who seems to thrive in the Olympics atmosphere.

Olympics Women's Event

Round 2 scores:

T2 Aditi Ashok -9
T53 Diksha Dagar +6

Excellent round for Aditi, she is still holding on the second spot. World number 1, Nelly Korda has taken 4 shots lead.
The Danish players also had a good round today.

:goodluck: to Aditi for next 2 rounds.

According to sportskeeda, day 3 is crucial for Aditi to maintain her momentum as it might comedown to a 54-hole contest due to the heavy rain forecast in the following days.

It will be great if it is a 54 hole event since Aditi is in a medal position. Of the top 23 (those -4 or better), Aditi is around the 20th best based on world rankings, so the longer it goes the harder it will be for her to hold her position.

Just dug into the stats, and it looks like this Olympic course is only around 6000 yards which is quite short (quite a bit shorter than typical LPGA courses). Aditi Ashok is one of the shortest hitters on the LPGA tour which means the rest of her game (her irons, short game, and putting) are likely her strength and that is coming to the fore on this course. Her place on the leaderboard is likely not a fluke on this course....

Agree that this course helps her. But conditions will be different on the final day with the rain.

Ya, I am all for awarding the medals based on the 3rd round finish.

Overall, wet conditions will not help her as it lengthens the course and also affects the putting (where she has been the best putter on the course). Of course, the wind brings its own set of challenges and shot makers who can hit lower trajectory shots will likely do better, so the wind is a wild card.

Quote from Phil Mickelson's long-time ex-caddie:

https://www.lpga.com/news/2021/aditi-on-a-roll
Former caddie Jim McKay, who followed Ashok earlier in the week for Golf Channel, called her putting performance “The best I’ve seen this year on any tour.” High praise coming from someone who watched Phil Mickelson up close for more than 20 years.
Quote from World number 1 Korda:

https://www.reuters.com/lifestyle/sport ... 021-08-06/
"She has some kind of swagger on the putting green. She owns it," said the 23-year-old daughter of former Australian Open tennis champion Petr.

Yeah, she was incredible on some of those putts. Like the 20 footer to the left that curved in, almost stopped at the edge and fell in.

Come to the Olympics general thread if you are following Aditi's 4th round at Olympics. Hit the rough on the tee-shot for the first three holes in a row, but she saved par all three times. -12 after 3 holes. Still at 2nd, one shot ahead of two tied at third. (Actually Lydia Ko just tied her at 2nd after 3 holes)

Olympics Women's Event

Final scores:

4 Aditi Ashok -15
T50 Diksha Dagar +6

Aditi missed the Olympics medal by 1 shot. Nevertheless, this should be her best performance ever considering she was ranked in the 170s.

She was ranked 1, 2 or 3 for 95% of the time, including at the end of each of the previous rounds. Missed the medal by a whisker, and she was 2 clear of the golfers in 5th. Just bad luck that she missed the birdie putt on the final hole, after making any number of spectacular putts earlier in the tournament. And all this at a time when she is ranked 200 in the Rolex world ranking.

Well, she was tied for 1 even late in the 4th round once, IIRC just before Nelly pulled ahead. Just a stupendous show. I will never forget how calm, collected and composed she was, all through the round. Not looking amteurish. No show of nerves; nothing. Like, she belonged there with those best golfers in the world.

Do Olympics count for rankings?
