Abhijeet Gupta finished a fantastic joint 1st along with Kamsky, Sjugirov & Mamedov in the almost defunct Aeroflot, which is now converted to Rapid & Blitz for this year, Rapid section with a score of 7.0/9......
Below are the standings for all Indians in Rapid.....
Anand is #6, Harikrishna #45 in the live ratings as of Feb 15. Sasikiran was #72 in the Feb ratings. And, I believe Sandipan Chanda should be breaking into the top 100 at around #85.
In the Aeroflot Blitz , Sasi was joint 5th after 16 rounds, but lost the last 2 games to Grischuk to finish 22nd with 12.0/18, still better than his starting rank of 35.....
Negi finished a creditable 2nd half-a-point behind Bacrot with a score of 6.5/9. He was in the lead until he lost to Sanikidze (2553) in Rd 6..., but came back strongly to score wins in Rd 7 & Rd 8 after which he had a good chance of catching up with Bacrot, but a draw in the last round meant he was half-point short in the end..., still a decent result...
India is being represented by Mary Ann Gomes, Eesha Karavade, Nisha Mohota, Padmini Rout & Soumya Swaminathan...
No Harika...
They have performed well and are 5th (against the starting rank of #6) after 5 rounds......
They have beaten Kazakh & France, drew against Georgia & Romania and lost to Ukraine....
Gritty finish in the last 2 rounds by India although they couldn't win a match point for their efforts, lost 1.5-2.5 to Russia & China resp. and finished 5th...... They were at 4th, before these 2 match ups, after 7th round.... Ukraine finished strongly to win it all......
K-60 rating system will bring back the long lost excitement in monthly FIDE rating list, of who moved where and how fast in that list. In addition it will have ELO ratings inflated to 8000+ very soon. Can you imagine that? A larger number would make it look more authentic and we would have a race to see who reaches 10,000 ELO rating points first - much like 10000 runs in test cricket!!
Wow, this is all too exciting for this time of the year, what with all the drama around the just concluded candidates tournament!!
Well, I was hoping someone in this forum fell for the April fool's prank, mentioned in my previous post. Anyone??
I had given some hints that this is a prank: "It is April", "for this time of the year" and an absurd statement like: "A larger ELO number would make it look more authentic and we would have a race to see who reaches 10,000 ELO rating points first - much like 10000 runs in test cricket!!"
I checked out the website. I remembered that it was April 1. The method did not make sense. But they had some articles about K-numbers or whatever from non April 1 dates. Then, I saw Sandipan Chanda ranked before Kramnik and was sort of sure that it was a hoax. Maybe the k-factor was not a hoax but your commentary was? I still don't know what is hoax and what is not even though I knew it was April 1 right from the beginning.
I took it seriously although it didn't make sense to me. But, I don't follow chess ranking points at all, so you can fool me any day. I did not even go to the site that was linked.
So, atithee was clueless and I could have got him even with a phony URL.
Prasen had some clue but still wasn't sure whether my post was the hoax or the link was.
Suresh fell for it!
FYI, I was channeling this forum's members to fall for a hoax that the website had created. I found it be a credible looking one and apparently there were some worried GMs calling them about it!! Once I read a K value of 60, I knew that was impossible to have and right way knew it was a joke....
