Re: Chess - General Thread
Pragga (12 yr old) is really doing well in this tournament. He has an upper hand today too and trying to break the fortress of his opponent Nils (2653) to get one more good win. If he wins, he'll be tied with Anand, Nakamura, Caruana with 4.5 points. Just behind Carlsen (5.5) and sole second placed Vidit(5.0).
Talking about Vidit, he is also have in g a nice tournament. I guess he might play Carlsen tomorrow. Seems like Pragga and Vidit are the future of Indian chess for coming years.
Update: Pragga had to settle for a draw.

Re: Chess - General Thread
Well, you forgot the "iti gaja". He is leading in the second division of Tata Steel Challenger. In the first division, Carlsen is leading (category XX) and unfortunately, Praggna is 2nd last or so. Well, his elo rating was the lowest in that category. So, not too shabby. And, he is only 16. So, hopefully, he will improve. The half-Nepali, half-Russian, grew-up-in-Japan, moved-to-Netherlands-at-high-school guy Giri is #2. Given that Vidit is so far behind, go Giri!

Re: Chess - General Thread
Giri fell to #4, Vidit was also way down. Pragga was 3rd last but he punched way above his ELO rating. So, it should improve. Decent show.

Arjun's performance rating was around 2800 for the tournament that he won even though he had the highest ranking. Crazy good.

Re: Chess - General Thread
He will drop off rankings soon due to inactivity. He hasn't played much recently.
The wait for the next top-10 player will take a long time. None of the young guns is shooting up the rankings.

Re: Chess - General Thread
End of last year, he finished last at the Gashimov Memorial tournament. [url=https://www.news18.com/news/sports/visw ... 87380.html]Article[/uel] Even though he is not playing anything this year yet, he has not confirmed retirement. Maybe he will play here and there.
On a different note, the 2022 Chess Olympiad was moved from Moscow to Chennai and Anand said he was very proud of that.

Re: Chess - General Thread
It is an online rapid game, and counts for zero.
Indian media has to stop making a big deal about inconsequential things from Praggna. If they wanted to hype someone, hype what Gukesh has been upto this year.
