Basically a froum to cover chess now that we seem to have sufficient interest in the game.

Praggna beats Wei Yi's record to become the youngest GM to reach 2600.

Title should be updated to "u18 world champion, youngest to reach 2600"

Pragg finally reached 2700 in live rankings, 3.5 hours after reaching 2600. He is still not 18 so this is a phenomenal achievement even though he has been overshadowed by Gukesh recently.

That's good time. 3.5 hours is no big deal. I could watch a really bad, long movie during that time. :-)

On the other hand, the International space station would have orbited the earth twice during that time. Or I would be on hole 15 in my weekend round of golf. Time is a relative concept! :D

Praggnanandhaa beats the reigning World Chess Champion Ding Liren of China with the black pieces, in the 4th round of Tata Steel chess.

With this he becomes the 2nd ever indian after Vishy to beat a reigning world champion.

Pragg is now India no1 in live ratings

Since we are dreaming, I will dream one step further. If Pragg wins against Ding, then will Carlsen want to play him? He will not play his generation, i.e., Carauna, Nakamura, Ding and Nepo. He thinks Alireza is a genius and will play against him. What about Pragg? Yes, Carlsen?

100% as long as the format is changed a bit.

Magnus is and has been a big fan of Pragg over the other Indian prodigies like Gukesh, Arjun and Nihal.

Coincidentally Pragg was invited to Magnus' home tournament Norway chess today - he joins Magnus (#1), Fabi (#2), Ding (#3), Hikaru (#4) and Alireza (#7) in the field. It is a pretty clear sign of how he is rated. Top 4 in the world and two youngsters Magnus rates the highest.

:-) They don't like Nepo? Nepo served as a second to Carlsen way back in 2012 I think. But, Carlsen refused to play Nepo and then Ding came in as the substitute and defeated Nepo. :-)

Has Giri disappeared from the scene? Sorry; I don’t follow chess outside Indian scene much.
