Vidit becomes first Indian to reach 3rd round. One of Harikrishna or Sethuraman (currently tied 1-1) will reach the 3rd round. And Adhiban is tied 1-1 against Nepomniachtchi.

Among top players Carlsen, Kramnik, Vachier-Lagrave have made it to round 3

128-player.

We had 5/7 reach the 2nd round. This was behind RUS(18), CHN(7), US(6).

Adhiban should have won with black against Nepo but missed out.

Sethu beats Hari for the second time running in round 2. Adbhiban loses out to Nepo in the tiebreak.

Sadly we only have 2 players in the 3rd round and they both start as underdogs.

Vidit blundered away a clear winning position to let Ding Liren escape with a draw.

Sethu with an easy draw against draw specialist Anish Giri.

Everything to play with for both our players tomorrow.

And today was Sethu's turn to mess up the endgame from a position where he had 90%+ chance to win. Sigh.

Anish is a very good rapid/blitz player and I expect him to win comfortably tomorrow in the tiebreak.

Liren-Vidit will be a tight one.

Indian challenge comes to an end in Round 3

Vidit lost to Ding Liren with black in the tie breaker, and Sethuraman lost to Anish Giri. They had there chances but missed it. Still a good performance by both.
Carlsen and Kramnik also lost in 3rd round. Lot of top players are already out. Aronian, Giri, Ivanchuk, Wesely So are still in the fray.

Ding Liren, who Vidit should have beaten in Round 3, qualifies for the finals.

So we will have a Chinese player in the FIDE candidates tournament for the first time (off the top of my head), and with Anand missing out, won't have an Indian there in almost 3 decades.

Sad :damn:
