Round 9 Update

Topsy-Turvy round for the Indian Men today against Argentina, all draws, but not without drama.....

Sethuraman could've won it with a huge advantage, but couldn't convert....
Adhiban could've lost, but survived...

In the 9th place now, after 9 rounds of play.... Good performance so far......

Next up against Germany.... :goodluck:

Indian women had a tough match against 3rd seed Ukraine and lost a close match, owing to the loss of Tania to Mariya on the 2nd board......

In 15th position now....

Next up against Switzerland..... :goodluck:

Round 10 Update

Awesome win for Indian Men against Germany...., courtesy of a win by Sasi with black pieces on the 3rd board against Nisi. Sethuraman had a slight advantage on the 2nd board with white, but didn't press on. Pari finished a solid draw against Naiditsch on the top board... Adhiban, with white pieces, on the 4th board tried hard for a win for 127 moves in a R+N vs. R ending...

Code: Select all

Round 10
Bo.	12 Germany (GER)	-	19 India (IND)	1½:2½
8.1	GM	Naiditsch, Arkadij	-	GM	Negi, Parimarjan	½ - ½
8.2	GM	Meier, Georg	-	GM	Sethuraman, S.P.	½ - ½
8.3	GM	Nisipeanu, Liviu-Dieter	-	GM	Sasikiran, Krishnan	0 - 1
8.4	GM	Baramidze, David	-	GM	Adhiban, B.	½ - ½
They are in a tied 3rd position after the penultimate round, 8th position when the tie-break scores are considered....

Tomorrow is a rest day....

In the final round, they'll face Uzbekistan, the best we could have asked for. Uzbekistan is the lowest seeded team in this point group and are propelled by Kasim on the top board, who should be the major hurdle.
India could yet finish with their best placing in an Olympiad to date beating the 6th placed finish almost a decade (IIRC) back...
Hell, they even have a shot at the Bronze medal if....

- India wins against Uzbekistan
- Poland loses or draws against China
- Ukraine loses or draws against Hungary
- France-Russia is a draw
- USA loses or draws against Azerbaijan
