Oops! missed the opponent country info completely..

Hari is taking a break today, while Sasi gets his first game.... Good strategy this to give the bottom board players more exposure during the initial rounds and the top board players more rest.... :D

Is this a Swiss system? You play better teams as you win more rounds?

Has there ever been a major chess tournament with a decent website? Why do they all suck so much?

I wondered about that as well -- Turkey was easy to guess but the other team was tricky with Vietnamese, Serbian and Asian sounding names.

It is a Swiss system where you play teams with comparable scores/standing. The Chess Olympiad site appears to be similar if not identical to the one's I have seen in earlier Olympiads.

I think it is decent website with all necessary info - http://www.chessolympiadistanbul.com/

Our both teams loses unnecessary 1 and ½ point respectively against lowly rated Turkey 2016 men's team and Australia women's team ... We need to avoid such slip-up to finish inside top 10.

Men's Round 2
(13) India bt (72) Turkey 2016 3-1

GM Krishnan Sasikiran (IND,2707) bt IM Burak Firat (TUR16,2423) 1-0 (W)
GM Parimarjan Negi (IND,2664) dw FM Cemil Can Ali Marandi (TUR16,2362) ½-½ (B)
GM Abhijeet Gupta (IND,2637) bt FM Vahap Sanal (TUR16,2387) 1-0 (W)
GM Geetha Narayanan Gopal (IND,2550) dw FM Muhammed Batuhan Dastan (TUR16,2317) ½-½ (B)

Women's Round 2
(6) India bt (50) Australia 3½-½

IM Eesha Karavade (IND,2371) bt WIM Arianne Caoili (AUS,2204) 1-0 (W)
IM Tania Sachdev (IND,2379) bt Sally Yu (AUS,1990) 1-0 (B)
WGM Mary Ann Gomes (IND,2396) bt IM Duc Hoa Nguyen (AUS,2505) 1-0 (W)
WGM Swaminathan Soumya (IND,2271) dw Biljana Novakovic-Dekic (AUS,2104) ½-½ (B)

Negi botched up a huge advantage in the end game to end up with a draw...... :-(
Gopal never got going in his game and managed only a draw...

On the women's side, it looked like a close one after Eesha's win on Board 1..., but Tania got some help from her opponent in mutual time trouble and Mary had enough advantage to get home the point for a 3.5-0.5 win......

Big upset of the day, Al-Modiahki stuns Ivanchuk and helps Qatar takes a point off Ukraine...
Only a couple of teams seem to be with the full 8 points so far......
