World Women Chess Championship - 2008

Basically a froum to cover chess now that we seem to have sufficient interest in the game.

hi mohanty

thanks for the updates! Is there a live web site showing the moves?

I have been following humpy's progress, impressive comebacks so far (two times already!), but not really watching her matches.

cheers
kujo

ps: Got it from your post on the first page of this thread, thanks!! http://nalchik2008.fide.com/schedule/?lang=eng

Once again a must win situation for Humpy, as she lost the first tie breaker (5 min) game playing white.

Now she is playing black....

After losing first tie-break game again Humpy showed her fighting performance to win next ... But Hou Yifan won both Blitz games to gave heart-breaking loss to Humpy ... :-(

Aaaahh, disappointment again :( . With out the world no.1 in the tournament, she had such a good chance to win it.

Well, actually she lost to Hou Yifan, who went on to win multiple world championships. No shame there. Even if the world #1 was not present, this isn't too bad a loss in hindsight. She is the current world champion in rapid chess though.

Koneru Humpy is someone I admire -- her mental toughness in handling male players in her early days was something to behold. She did chase the GM norm by playing `easy' tournaments and so they acted as if she didn't belong with them in the National A Mens Championship. She fixed all of them by always playing for a result -- no friendly draws! I am so happy that she is back to playing after the birth of her baby.
