In Europe usually Michele with a single l is a guy and Michelle 2 ll's is a girl. The US where they can't really spell have changed the name to Mitchel (guys) and whatever spelling of Michel(l)e they want :-)

Yesssss!! Negi wins against another GM!! :)

This one is from France - GM Arnaud Hauchard rated 2487. By this win against another GM, Negi is now at 2.5 points out of 4 games. Still on course for his 3rd and final GM norm, recovering nicely from yesterday's loss.

Up next for Negi is another Russian, GM Valeri Yendemirov rated 2503. Negi will be playing black in the 5th round.

A draw tomorrow will continue to keep him on track for the 3rd GM norm. We will have to wait and see how he does....

:goodluck: Negi!!

Negi lost today! :(

This is going to de-rail his plans for the final GM norm, unless something extraordinary happens from this point on...

Neeloptal Das (in A2 group) won and now has 4 points from 5 rounds. Good job!

Negi wins with white pieces in round 6 (group A2) of the Aeroflot tournament. :) He won against IM Martin Senff from Germany, rated 2471.

Negi now has 3.5 points from 6 rounds, with 3 more rounds to go. He will play with black pieces for 2 of those rounds and will need a miracle to make his final GM norm from this point on!! :)

Quick update:
By one of those quirks of the swiss league round robin games, Negi will be playing with white pieces in the next round!! He is up against a Russian IM Dmitry Frolyanov rated 2501.

Will this turn out to be a lucky break for him?! We will have to wait and see..... :)

No lucky break today for Negi. He lost!! :(

I guess this is the end for his GM norm quest for now. Will have to wait till his next tournament.

Smile!! :)

Negi won against yet another GM. He played with black against GM Ara Minasian from Armenia - rated 2487 in round 8 and won today.

This has been an up and down kind of tournament for Negi. He either wins or loses! There was only a single draw from him, out of the 8 games played so far!!

He plays with white tomorrow against GM Alexander Evdokimov from Russia, rated 2498

:goodluck: Negi!!

Negi's final game was a draw with white pieces. He ends up with 5 points from 9 rounds in group A2 of the Aeroflot Open. One of the toughest open tournaments in the world!!

He would have made the GM norm had he drawn a couple more games instead of the losses. Despite not making the norm it was still a good outing for him. To play everyday for 9 continous days, that too upto 6 hours for one of his hard fought wins in the 6th round is definitely a good experience in itself.

He finished 54th from a pool of over 150 players in his group. His average opponent rating was 2494 and his performance rating was 2537.

His expected performance, given the opponents he faced would be 3.25 points. Since he actually scored 5 points, he stands to gain 1.75*15 = 26 rating points from this outing!! :)

cheers

Ooh yes, for anyone keeping a tally of his current rating, Negi should be at 2482 as of today.

He was at 2420 at the end of Hastings, gained 36 points from Parsvnath Intl and now the 26 points from Aeroflot open.
