Basically a froum to cover chess now that we seem to have sufficient interest in the game.

True @ajay...

Hari and Sasi were playing cat and mouse during that period where Sasi broke the 2700 barrier and played the Sophia Super GM tournament....

After that, it was all Hari...
He just kept pegging at the top-100 list from the last 3 years tirelessly and here he is now.... And he has a reputation among his peers of playing very precisely and as a solid player....

Here's an interview of Hari after yesterday's win.... Humble as ever...

Code: Select all

Note: During the high of Sasi, it was great with Ganguly, Chanda and Negi were in the mix... Now, it's time for Adhiban, Vidit and Sethu to follow in the foot steps of Hari...
Hopefully Negi will come back and play some chess...

Hari lost to Kramnik today... and drops to 6th...

Carlsen lost to Aronian and they are tied at the Top...
So, Aronian's last round game against Hari would be crucial.... :goodluck:

Guess we left the Norway Chess hanging in there without the final result... :D

Hari drew with Aronian in the last round and ended up joint 6th along side Li Chao ahead of Anish, Eljanov and Nils, 1.5 points adrift of the winner, Carlsen...

Not really bad, but it could have been better if he had converted that win against Nils....

Neverthless, he gains 0.9 ELO for his efforts and is 2763.9.... He was very close to Vishy's 2770 before losing to Kramnik in the penultimate round...

Gashimov Memorial 2016, 26 May - 4 Jun, AZE

R1

Hari kick-starts his 2nd big tournament of 2016 with a draw against Caruana with black pieces...

There was some initial excitement when Hari starting rolling his queen side pawns towards White king that was castled onto the queen side...

But the decision to not capture the Bishop on c3 meant that Hari was not able to fully capitalize on that position... After that there was pawn exchange he missed out on.... Caruana had a slight advantage from there on, but nothing decisive in the end...... :D

R2

Hari will have whites against Mamedyarov today.... :goodluck:

Gashimov Memorial 2016, 26 May - 4 Jun, AZE

R2

Hari gets the win with white pieces against Mamedyarov and takes sole lead - later joined by Caruana and will possibly be joined by Anish later...

Hari also jumps to to 2769.3, less than one ELO away from Vishy who is at 2770....

R3

Today, Hari came out of the opening with black pieces against Karjakin with level play... But he combusted (with lot of time on the clock) and made one wrong move and is currently being gobbled up by Karjakin... :damn:

Hari fought until the end, but it was lost cause... In the mid-field with 1.5/3...

R4

Against Anish with black pieces... Hopefully he'll repeat his result from last month's Norway Chess... :goodluck:

Noooo... Hari, with black pieces against Anish had a slight advantage going into the middle game... but he blundered it away...

Two tactical blunders in two games..... What's going on? :damn:

He's effectively lost 4 ELO in this tournament and is #13 at 2759.9...

R5

:goodluck: for today's game with white pieces against the back marker, Eljanov...
Hopefully Hari will get a win before going into the rest day...

R5

Good win for Hari to recover from the last two losses and he is back in the mid-field at 2.5/5..., two points adrift of the sole leader Fabi who has 4.5/5...

So, he has 4 results in the last 4 rounds... 2 wins with whites and 2 losses with blacks...
He also jumps back up in the ranking list to #12 with 2764.9...

Tomorrow is the rest day...

R6

Hari will come back after the rest day and play Hou with black pieces... :goodluck:

Hari could only draw against Hou with black pieces... in the mid-field with 3/6, 2 full points off the leader, Fabi...

R7

Next up with white pieces against Rauf Mamedov..... :goodluck:

R8

Another draw for Hari today against Radja...

Hari is 5th with 4 points...
He's currently losing 2.4 ELO and is still #12 in the rating list at 2761.6...

Overnight leader Fabi (5.5 pts) lost to Shak and Giri (5) is trying to eek out a win to take sole lead

R9

Last round with white pieces against Safrali.... :goodluck:
A win tomorrow will fetch him 3.6 ELO, making it +1.2
A draw would lose him 1.4 ELO making it -3.8 overall...
