I can't imagine either. It is crazy that these chess players can visualise the boards by simply remembering their own and the opponent's moves so far....

Anand is good at it, but he is even better in the rapids. In any case, has someone watched the you tube videos on Susan Polgar? If you haven't you should!! See all the 6 episodes. "My Brilliant Brain - Make Me a Genius. Ep 2 (Part 1 of 6)."

U really need master in chess to play Blindfold Chess, where play is conducted without the players having sight of the positions of the pieces, or any physical contact with them ... Moves are communicated via a recognized chess notation usually to a referee.

Check this article on that by IM Danny Kopec with a few games from his own experience.

Hari won the Spice cup 2008 on tiebreak. Spice Cup was initiated by Susan Polgar (S. P. of SPice) and is held in Lubbock, Texas, where Polgar has moved to from New York. It was a category 15 event (av rating of 2605, quite high by US standards). Hari was the second seed at 2668. He had too many draws in the beginning and I gave up hope. However, he did pick up two wins, the last one against Kaidanov on the last day. There was a 4-way tie at the top with Hari (2668), Akobian (2610), Onischuk (2670, the top seed) and Kritz (2610).

The tie-break order was as followed:

1. Direct encounter
2. Number of games played with Black
3. Sonneborn - Berger
4. Number of games won
5. Koya system

Of the four on top, only Kritz has lost a game, but to some one outside this group of four.

Harikrishna, Onischuk, and Kritz had five Blacks.

Sonneborn-Berger scores (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonneborn-Berger_system) for them:
Harikrishna 23.25
Onischuk 23.0
Kritz 22.5 .

Hari won against Miton and Kaidanov both at 3.5 where as Onischuk won against Perelsteyn (4) and Stefansson (2.5). Hence Hari's slight lead over Onischuk.

I was worried that he would lose rating points even if he wins like this. Apparently not. His rating performance was 2678. Good showing Hari!

Hari wins Nancy Chess Festival 2009 with 2758 performance.

http://www.chessdom.com/news-2009/penta ... shna-nancy

A few weeks back, Hari was in contention for winning Gibtelecom tournament, one of the strongest Swiss events in the world, till he lost to the eventual winner Peter Svidler in the last round. Still Hari ended with 7/10 and a 2694 performance.Ganguly also did well with a 6.5/10 (2660 performance).

(BTW, you could check out Svidler, a cricket Fan, showing off his batting 'skill'. Irina Krush clearly thinks it is baseball with a wider bat.)

A more detailed report (with many images) on the Nancy chess festival 2009.
http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=5252
Hari won the A group title with a 1 pt lead on the rest of the field. One must say, that he was also the top seed, leading the rest of the field by 26 Elo points. He fought hard to win in the last game when a draw was enough.

Hari came within striking range of 2700 in mid 2006, but since has been stuck in the 2650-2680 range. He is currently at 2673, and the last few months of heroics gives him another 16 point. That is a live rating of 2689, similar to his previous peak. I hope this time he can sustain the momentum to be the third player from the country to reach 2700. He has been quite consistent when playing in tournaments where he is one of the top seeds. To be firmly in 2700+ territory, he has to do well in tournaments where he would currently be an underdog.

After the Corus B disaster Sasi is down to something like 2682 now and a has a long road back to recovery.

Hari has a bad outing at Bosna 2009 and ended with 4/10.

http://www.skbosna.ba/?jezik=bos&x=47&y=52
He started with a string of draws and then a series of losses. Only bright side is his 8th round win against Ivan Sokolov.

This result hurts his march towards 2700.

Thanks, Jaydeep for posting detailed results. I did not realise that Harikirishna has his own thread. He has been know for quite some time to be one of the most talented players to emerge after Anand but has not been able to make it at senior level. Hopefully, this will be breakthrogh tournament for him.

Thanks Jaydeep. I had been following the tournament and I'm sure some others in this forum too, but I was too lazy to post any thing. I'm glad that you posted this. ( I hope someone will also update the results from on going Gibraltar Chess Festival 2012, where Negi and Sasikiran just split the point after playing a marathon match)

Yes, that is a great achievement on part of Harikrishna. Congratulations.

Great to see that K. Sasikaran now has a rating of 2703 and is in the top-40 in the world. I think he might be the only other Indian after Anand to reach the 2700 plateau.

Yes & Harikrishna has a rating of 2678 with a ranking of 71. Hopefully, these 2 have started to emege from the shadow of great Vishy Anand although they may never reach those heights achieved by him.
